Before the game Phil was on TV saying how his biggest point of emphasis after the last game was to prevent the players from taking so many 3's. He said he wanted aggressive dribble drive ('bout time!!) rather than perimeter shooting. LO seemed to take this to heart. Rather than chucking up 3's and passing the ball around the perimeter, he took every opportunity to drive. It was very encouraging, and I'm hoping we see more of that from LO. He is 10 times more effective when he attacks, because he has the length to finish well around the basket and the passing ability to create opps for the others.

Let's wait and see.

The Lakers team are finally getting the ball inside the paint and it's a sign of improvement. Now, we still have a problem, they still love taking 3 point shots...kobe and george to be specific

Odom, this year at least, plays well against Jazz for some reason.

Odom is not the only one throwing up 3's. The last two games the Lakers have had the opponent in early foul trouble and continued to jack up 3's when they easily could have taken it to the hole for an easy shot or a pair of free throws. Less perimeter, more points in the paint!

... I'd like to see a change in focus by the players reflected by no step-back three attempts - except under the most extenuating of circumstances. They need to just shoot the ball with the highest percentage opportunity possible - and forget about the three-point line altogether. Treat it as a spacing marker, but not a free-throw line they'll be penalized if they cross.

If they can break the habit of stepping back into threes, it will mean they are concentrating on their shot and/or the floor situation. As a result, drives, step-in 15-footers, and other more productive moves will naturally flow from the new focus.

Inappropraite step-back three attempts should be penalized by Phil with a $50 fine, whether the shot is made or not.

I didn't notice him doing anything different. He was just matched up against the slower Okur which allowed him to penetrate and either get to the rim or dish. This is when Lamar is at his best, when he can get in the lane and force the defense to collapse on him.

To his credit, he didn't over-penetrate and get himself trapped or run anyone over. He played very much under control last night and did a good job drawing the defense in and finding the open teammate. His teammates we're converting a few more passes into baskets which helped his assist total. He probably would have reached double-digits in assists if Kwame had converted some of those passes.

I also thought he, as well as all the Lakers, did a pretty good job staying active on the defensive end.

We'll know when LO has an epiphany when we see him go to his right more than once a game and start developing a mid-range arsenal.

I've gotta say, Odom really deserves accolades for what hes done the last few games while hurt. And I must say his defense has been from average to not to shabby. Look at the number he did against T-Mac and Kirelenko last night. While he hasn't been an all-defense player caliber, the last 3 games has done a solid job on D. Hopefully he can keep it up.

hahahahaha

The thing that makes him so good as a slasher though is that when he has to go to his right he can post the man up, and he's pretty effective in the post with his length and skills. Last game he was going to the post alot in the first quarter he'd make the pass they'd move around and he'd get position on kirelenko, if he didn't finish he'd get to the line or get kirelenko into foul trouble. When he camps out on his beach he's taken out of the game and just becomes a three point shooter which isn't his game. Its not easy finding your spots in the triangle especially when people go to the wrong spots and then theres two people in the same spot, but eventually i think we'll see him driving and posting up alot more. Which will only make us better.

Epiphany- 1) an appearance or manifestation esp. of a divine being 2), a sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature of something 3)an intuitive grasp of reality through something 4)an illuminating discovery 5) a revealing scene or moment
Did Lamar have any of these last night? Ummm---maybe at least one of the above. But since it is Lamar,- probably all of the above.

you will all eat your words...Lamar will start attacking the basket aggressively from now on and will be a much more effective player. the combination of trade rumors + slump + phil jackson pushing the dribble drive has finally gotten to Lamar....at least I hope.

Why don't you try WATCHING a game sometime. He can and does go right at least several times a game ... just enough to keep defenders honest. Or would you prefer that he go right ALL the time even though he is a natural lefty?

Yes, he had a great game, but the sad thing is they come by maybe every 8 games if we're lucky.

But Lamar intends to go left whenever he goes right. He just gets confused; he only scored 650 on the SAT.
