He was with the Lakers for two seasons 1973-75. He was a hall of famer and very athletic for his time. He was the forerunner to Dr. J. The first two years he played in the ABA from 1967-1969. Go watch some youtube clips. RIP.

Hats off for The Hawk.
Great finisher, all finger rolls and one-handed slams with grace and speed. Not the high-flyer type, but Hawk moved right past most defenders with speed, length and stride and huge mitts. Exciting to watch and maybe not the hardest-working guy on defense. Was shunned early career for quite a while relating to some sort of gambling scandal, can't remember the detail. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”
RIP Hawk... Held that ball in his giant hands like a peach, really entertaining a real smooth player, a Gervin and DR. J mix IMO in many ways style wise.

Former NBA commissioner Stern helped wreck his career as an anti union
attorney at Proskauer Rose. He was counsel during the NBA’s case to keep Connie Hawkins out of the association. As if the NBA doesn't benefit on gambling... Right... Ok... Another reason I don't care for Stern and his (bleep).
He was 28 when he joined and played with several teams. I wish I could have seen him play, just a huge NBA influence. Watch that finger roll and passing in the paint! I wonder if he was mad at big game for rocking 42?

Played with the Lakers for 2 seasons, just following Wilt moving on and Jerry retiring. He was great fun to watch. On the day that Jerry retired, the team had its annual inter-squad scrimmage at Loyola. Those were very fun to go to. For $5, you could sit anywhere in the gym, courtside if you got there early enough. Jerry sat in the bleachers under one basket with Elmore Smith, who was hurt. He had his head in his hands, looking depressed.
Connie had just been brought in, and he was doing his trademark "swooping" all over the place. Very fun to watch.
After the game, Jerry and Connie had an extended conversation at the end of the floor; Connie's hand on Jerry's shoulder. Jerry seemed to be wiping away tears. At the end of the conversation, they embraced warmly, and Jerry went out to his 240Z (license plate "Clutch") and drove off. I always though highly of Connie after that for reaching out to the legend who was obviously in need of a human moment.
