I don't think it's that simple.
If Magic knows he's healthy and wants to come, KL is the better basketball choice, and for the past year, Magic has made the right basketball choice over and over, which is the opposite of what so many people said he would do. |
How will Magic know if Leonard is healthy before free agency in July? |

What I said lol. I don't think it's smart to pass up LeBron for Kawhi next year. We just don't know where Kawhi's mind will be in a year, and I'd be lying if I said I was 100% sure he'll be healthy. You can't pass up an all-time great like LeBron--who is playing incredible and who is in outstanding physical condition and who has never had a major injury in his career--for the hope that you get Kawhi in a season.
If the Lakers are convinced that Kawhi's health won't be an issue next season, I could see them trying to trade for him this summer and going for a proverbial triple play. But I'm not sure if that would satisfy Kawhi's apparent desire to have more of the spotlight, although perhaps his visibility on a Lakers team with LeBron would be OK with him. Although that would make PG the #3, and is he OK with that?
In any case, I would go for LeBron and PG and go from there. |

Oh, no worries, I didn't take it as you calling me out or anything. I just think we should be trying like hell to secure LeBron and PG and then seeing what happens after that. We'd have a ton of options. |
I have been of the same mindset because I don't consider KL a sure thing next summer and we don't know about his health.
But the quote from the agent got me thinking- what if the Lakers do know that he's a sure thing and that his health is going to be fine ?
That makes it a much more interesting question. Interesting results in the poll so far. |

If Kawhi Leonard makes it to free agency the Lakers would have to get his medical records on July 1st 2019. Of course they would have an advantage of watching how he performs this year.

Of course not. In theory, if his mind is not made up, all 3 of Philly/Houston/Lakers make sense. I try to put my objectivity hat on with my analysis, and you really can make legit pro and con arguments for all 3. |

In today's paradigm where everyone has access to printers that can literally reproduce any type of font... and where ethics are lax to the point where doctors will write handicap passes to any rich client who pays them... what value do medical records actually have?
I wouldn't trust anything until I saw a full speed... full contact workout. |

I could see trusting a physical by my own medical staff... but I certainly wouldn't just trust the Spurs doctors unless I had a long professional relationship and knew them.
Still, if you buy a 100 million dollar car... you do not just trust the mechanic... you would take that car out on the road and drive it full throttle. |

I just don't see the other two. Even last night, Woj was talking about the Cav's rebuild if he left for LA. Repeating the same stuff he said about LeBron in June of 2017. |
