adkindo's (updated) Preferred Summer 2018 Plan

Player-----------------Salary
1. Lonzo Ball - $7,461,960
2. Paul George - $29,290,000 (1% Reduction)
3. Brandon Ingram - $5,757,120
4. Larry Nance - $2,272,391
5. Jordan Clarkson - $12,500,000
6. Julius Randle - $5,564,134 Qualifying Offer
7. Kyle Kuzma - $1,689,840
8. Josh Hart - $1,655,160
9. Ivaca Zubac - $1,544,951
10. Thomas Bryant - $1,378,242
11. Nerlens Noel - $12,136,202 3+1 (Player Opt.)
12. Caldwell-Pope - $13,750,000 3+1 (Player Opt.)
13. Brook Lopez - $4,544,000 Room Exception
14. Alex Caruso - $815,615 Minimum Exception
15. Vander Blue - $815,615 Minimum Exception
TW. Denver 2nd Round - $-
TW. Player X - $-
Deng Stretched - $6,000,000 ($30M Buyout)
- $107,175,230
- $101,000,000 Salary Cap
- $(6,175,230)
- $6,175,230 Exceptions
- $-

Keys to the plan:

- Get PG-13 to sign for 29% instead of full 30% Max.
- Get Randle to sign QO, knowing we would have Bird Rights the following year.
- Sign 3+1 Deals with KCP starting @ $13.8 Million (4 Years - $62 Million) and Noel @ $12.1 Million (4 Years - $55 Million)
- Get Lopez to accept Room Exception...have full bird rights following year.
- Sign Caruso to Minimum Exception
- Sign Blue to Minimum Exception
- Sign 2nd round Pick to 2 Way
- Offer another young guy 2 way

Would result in a young athletic group that could be scary on defense immediately....and once Ball, Ingram and Kuzma's offense catches up in combination with PG-13, the offense would be very good in a couple years. Roster offers a ton of flexibility, and every player with maybe the exception of Lopez will still be within or near their prime years when roster is ready to contend in 2-3 years.

Note 1: If Randle will not agree to QO or Brook will not agree to room exception, try to sign Mario Hezonja with that money.

Note 2 : If Deng can be cleared completely off the books with future draft picks, that money could be used for a player like Hezonja....or combined with additional money squeezed from the KCP/Noel offers to seek a player such as Tyreke Evans.

no, too much court alpha in KCP...do not think Westbrook could "control" him....and that would lead to problems

I'd be okay with Lopez at 4.5 mill as long as he's coming off the bench - hopefully at that point politics won't be an issue.

There tends to be a fair amount of leaks during free agency, so Deng and his agent will know that Magic & Pelinka want him gone to gain more cap space.

Why is Deng going to agree to give up $6.8 million from the $36.8 million owed to him? They will already have nuked his 2017 - 18 season except for his minutes in October, so I don't know why he would do them a favor and take less than what he has coming to him. He just has to wait them out and get the full $36.8 million stretched over five years.

I have seen a lot of people praise Marcus Smart around here, but basically if Hart ends up bulking up he can be our Marcus Smart, he's already a better 3pt shooter, the only difference is that Smart is more stronger.

Well Smart is a much much better defender, but a big liability offensively. Hart is solid defensively, and solid offensively (for a rookie). So the question is : do you want a guy that is great at one thing and trash at another or someone who is (right now) average at both. Since Hart is a rookie, a year younger and much cheaper, it's a no brainer fo me...

Hart has a better upside for me right now. Hart will get better at defense and like you said, the much better value. He's taller and they have comparable wingspans. Better basketball IQ and a proven leader.

I see Smart being more Jarrett Jack and Hart being more Wesley Matthews.

I am being optimistic, but I think he strongly desire the chance to play....and feels he could get that $6 Million back over the next 2 years. Still, we are only talking about $1.5 Million a year for the cap....so there could be possible adjustments in other places.

Wouldn't he just hold out until the summer and just get his full contract stretched? I don't see his incentive to get a buyout, and he fully knows that the Lakers 100% need his deal stretched (or traded).

nobody thinks his lack of minutes are based on talent....Carlisle is know to have personality conflicts with players....and those players are moved or not played. I would assume that is what is taking place in Dallas. Noel is an extremely gifted defender and rim protector.

If we're already keeping Julius and signing Noel, maybe we sign Belly instead of Lopez though?

sure, but I would be cautious with the years given to a 32 year old Belinelli.

He and his agent (Rich Paul) poisoned the well in Dallas and Carlisle is treating him like a G-League call-up. Noel shouldn't get $12.5M coming off his current performance, but he's a lot better than he's been in Dallas to date.

Who would you want to start at center assuming that Cousins and DeAndre Jordan both re-sign?

We aren’t keeping Randle at $5.5 mil.

I'd start Julius or Noel over Lopez for sure.

Hey we gotta get Hezonja. Magic had some injuries recently and he got more playing time. First game he scored 17 points, last night he scored 28, made 8 3's.

We can try to sign him as a FA after the season.

I've been coveting him for a year, but his team declined his team option. So if we trade for him, we'd be very limited (like Okafor) to offer him $ in FA (capped at whatever the team option would have been). This is why I was hoping we would trade for him outright when we would still have his rights.

Ya good point. He will be unrestricted. Well hope teams around the league dont really notice his recent play.
He could be good for us as a SG/SF. We do have 30 minutes available for him, especially without KCP. 12 at SF, 18 at SG.
Like the way he catches and shoots.

could trade for him as long as you think he will accept a contract next season starting at a little more than $5 Million.
