IMO it would be insane to trade BI or Kuzma for a salary dump. We can make the space by stretching Deng and letting Randle go. Clarkson should be easy to trade. Even if you have to trade a future 1st, Kuzma is more valuable than that pick at this point.

It's not even looking good for us to sign two stars anyway, we shouldn't make another knee-jerk reaction and trade a young stud too early. At least they had personal reasons to trade DLO and got Lopez and Kuzma back.

Geez really? They got the pick and drafted Kuzma with it. Happy?

And if they didnít they could have used their own pick to draft him. The trade had nothing to do with drafting Kuzma, but one could argue it did with drafting Hart and Bryant.

It's fine if you want to make that argument. Still, the fact remains that they drafted Kuzma with the Nets pick.

$148MM max extension for Joel Embiid. He's played 786 minutes in his entire career. Good luck with that, Philly.

Apparently, 50% is guaranteed. Still, it's pretty crazy that a guy that has barely played gets that much money.

Avery would be a nice upgrade from KCP and JC, is he a FA next summer?

Yeah, it seems like it won't all be guaranteed. Just saw this...

Embiid's extension has been described to me as "perhaps the most complex" in NBA history. Expect a lot of details to trickle out.

Ball/Hart
Paul/Wade
Melo/Ingram
LeBron/Kuzma
Cousins/Zubac/Bryant

Paul, Melo, LeBron, Wade all take paycuts and get the banana boat crew together for one last hurrah.

Lakers trade Randle, Nance, Clarkson for Cousins at the deadline and resign him. Deng gets stretched.

Oden played 51 more games than Embiid in his first three years.

LA may also be able to do a "contract downgrade" with Deng. Trade for a player on an expiring contract after next season, give back a couple draft picks for that privilege. And then you stretch the expiring player.

Examples include:
* Demarre Carroll (15.4m, stretch to 5.1m over 3 seasons)
* Dwight Howard (LMAO, imagine Twitter that day: 23.8m stretched to 8m over 3 seasons)
* Jeremy Lin (12m on a player option, stretched to 4m over 3 seasons)

As opposed to stretching Deng and having 7.4m of dead money over 5 years.

This is what I think happens too, and this is how I free the Lakers in MyGM every time. Just keep trading for guys with one year less.

We are not trading Deng. We are not going to attach BI or Kuzma to any trade. The guy we have to trade is JC (as some have stated). If we expect a team not to give us back salary, we are going to have to add a big sweetener to the deal. That sweetener is going to be JR.

No, that sweetener would be a couple of firsts, or maybe Ingram or Kuzma. Explain to us why a team would take $30-35 mil in salary with JC and a re-signed Randle without dumping something uglier onto us? With the upcoming FA market, what team would use their cap space on JC and Randle? They wouldnít, so the only other incentive would be to dump a Deng type of contract on us.

The way to do this trade is during the season to a good team that will be over the cap in 2 years. Portland comes to mind. They do not care about the luxury tax and they fit the criteria. They can off Davis (ending) and Aminu (2 years). Aminu makes slightly more than half what Clarkson makes and would be MUCH easier to move next summer.

Today, I actually started having a nagging feeling that Kuzma would be the add-on for a Deng salary dump. I'm starting to think it has to be either Kuzma or Ingram at this point.

I don't think Randle's trade value is high enough anymore. And if the front office is determined not to trade Ingram and are in on him long-term,

and if their targets are primarily Paul George and LeBron James, those are at positions that would make either Ingram or Kuzma expendable. I wonder if a breakout year from Kuzma would make him the chip to trade Deng.

The latest Locked on Lakers on Friday had me start thinking about this

Why the (bleep) do the Lakers need to dump Deng? They already can open up 2 max slots by stretching Deng, dumping Clarkson for no returning salary, and declining Randle's option, correct? There's no way the Lakers would dump Ingram or Kuzma when they could just as easily keep them.

They do need to get rid of Clarkson ASAP. Whatever expiring salary we can get back, though it'll probably cost a 2nd round pick or something.

It is the getting rid of JC with no long term salary coming back that will be difficult. We would really have to sweeten the pot to achieve that.

Yeah, I agree. Magic and Rob should've gotten rid of him earlier. Not many teams have cap space, and those that do have little use for Clarkson. Not sure if any teams have expiring contracts they'd trade for Clarkson, even if we incentivized it with a 2nd rounder or something.

They tried to in the ill fated Indiana trade attempt for George.

That was frankly insulting to the Pacers. I'd be happy to dump Clarkson for cap space. Forget about getting Paul (bleep) George back.

Why wouldn't LeBron just go to Houston instead?

Not happening.

I'm not a Bruins fan by any means, but if we strike out on the big time stars, how does everyone feel about Zach Lavine? Assuming he's healthy. He's young enough to grow with the core, and he's quite athletic and is lights out from 3. Not sure if he can play defense though. He'll be injured for a lot of the Bulls season, and I'm not sure if they would be willing to pay him very much at all. He has to be better than preseason KCP right? Plus he's a microwave that can go off for 40 plus quench your DLO thirst.

I think his game will translate when he's back from injury, he's a great shooter and can score in a lot of ways outside dunking. Depending on the price I think he would be a great addition to the Lakers... Seriously the only player they currently have who can light it up is a rookie power forward

I'd rather pay Lavine than Randle

Why overpay for Cousins? He didn't cost that much when the got him from Sacto.

I think they should try and trade for him if the Pelicans are not competitive but not include BI. I would look at Lopez and Clarkson as Lopez is not needed if we get Cousins.

Kuzma, Lonzo and BI should not be traded. I would like to see them find a way to keep Randle long term.

Don't like Avery Bradley for the Max.

Cousins will have a cap hold of $27.1 million next summer.

Ingram + Clarkson + Randle (cap hold) is about $30.7 million.

So a difference of $3.6 million less a hit for an incomplete roster charge or two. If it would be two more incomplete roster charges rounded at $850,000 each, then about $1.9 million in additional space space.

Not now, Cousins is still a headcase. We will see if his change in tune this offseason carries through the regular season.
