Lakers management has taken a firm stance that they are not going to spend luxury tax dollars to win now. Lakers management are content with trading Shaq and waiting three years before spending money to get players around Kobe, while he is in his prime.
Which would be a better scenario?
1. Stay content with this roster and potentially get another top 10 lottery pick...
Is it better for the Lakers to not make any trades before the deadline, continue to struggle this year, miss the playoff for the second year in a row and get another lottery pick (top 10 so it’s protected)?
2. Make a trade, push for a playoff run and lose their draft pick...
Is it better for the Lakers to make a trade before the deadline, get into the playoffs as an 6th, 7th or 8th seed, perhaps lose in the 1st or 2nd rounds and get a high teen to mid twenties draft pick and lose it to Phoenix (via an earlier trade – only a top 10 pick is protected)?
Obviously, the worst case scenario is the Lakers missing the playoffs and finishing with a lottery pick higher than 10. Phoenix gets the Lakers 1st round pick if it's not a top 10 pick. Unfortunately, this is a very likely scenario with the Lakers being a .500 ball club and barely hanging on to the 8th seed. |

Considering there are other possibilities, like no trade and make the playoffs and make a trade and miss the playoffs, this is not a very good poll. Can't answer it at all. _________________ I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce! |

PLEASE ... this is like the old question ... have you stopped beating your wife ... yes or no???
DUMB, DUMB narrow minded question. Good thing the Bussfamily and Mitch don't only look atthings as if there is only one or two possible options and outcomes.

Even if we dont make the playoffs, I believe our first round pick goes to Boston..not sure if it is lottery protected... _________________ “YO JEANIE, WHATS UP MY BIIIAAACCCHH!” – COCA JAMES ON 1540AM THE TICKET LAKERS ROUNDTABLE - 03/02/06

It's lotto-protected.
If Lakers/Boston both are lotto, Suns don't get either pick.
If Lakers are lotto, Boston not - Suns get Boston's pick.
If Boston is lotto, Lakers not - Suns get Lakers' pick.
If neither are lotto, the Suns get the worst between the Lakers/Boston picks.
(I should note, I'm not sure whether it's "lotto" protected or top-10, but
it's one or the other anyhow). |

It is crystal clear unless we get an all star our Playoff run(if any will be short lived). In that case trade LO for a young defensive minded guy who can occasinally score to put next to Kobe. Iggy, Pietrus etc. Next year Bynum will /should fight with Mihm for Playing time even playing both at the same time. Sign a pg or trade for watson with DG and expiring
Watson/Smush
Kobe/green
Iggy/cook
Brown/Turiaf
Mihm/Bynum
this is a strong defensive team _________________ Lakers Tickets |
