I was waiting for your answer VLF.

This is the barometer I used for judging your comment.

Negative - means good hire.
Nuetral - means great hire.
Positive Comment - means really great hire.
Very Positive Comment - the most amazing hire ever!

So apparently we made a great hire!

😂 Just playing dude.

No top five picks and some other input beyond Analytics, but it appears that they drafted quite well.

probably should include Barnes in there if we are looking at pre Durant draft activity that lead to that title

Barnes -- #7 (2012)

Good point.

was looking at that and wondered what happened to 2010....looked it up, and I had forgotten about Ekpe Udoh who they drafted #6 in 2010....guess he was their miss.

I'll get excited when I see "Gets hired as Defensive Assistant" and it's someone capable.

Don't need to go to Harvard to know in NBA team With the best player/players now that we have super teams usually has a higher probability of winning.

Do you mean teams like OKC, Golden State, San Antonio and Houston?

All four are well known for being involved with Analytics.
lol. does it matter when you have pretty much the most of the best players in the nba? NO. we know analytics is a necessary thing. But we always have this discussion. We're all waiting to see it work for teams with lesser talent. Until then, it will not be this "oh my...we finally got an analytics guy." as if thats the reason why we've been so bad these last few years.

You give me curry, green, durant, and klay. and You can have any analytics guru in the world. lets see who wins. and by the way your team has to be a bunch of borderline all stars only

Analytics is about maximizing impact by finding underrated value/skills in a limited talent pool.

Houston pulled the trigger on trading for Harden when mainstream opinion was that he had 'old man game' and was a glorified 6th man.

Spurs made a draft day trade for Kawhi when mainstream opinion said he was athletic but couldn't shoot a lick.

Golden State drafted Curry when mainstream opinion said he was too small to play SG and shot too much to play point with limited passing/ball handling.

When Lonzo begins to impact the NBA game with his passing, pace and style, people will wonder why Boston and Philadelphia missed the opportunity to take him. Fairly soon, people will laugh at the mainstream opinion of being wary of his funky release and shot selection.

I don’t know anything about him but getting someone in a lead role is better than having a vacancy.

Good to see them fill this position. Interesting he worked directly for the NBA before the Lakers picked him up. I hope that means he's top notch and the Lakers can use him effectively upcoming months and years.

Very quality hire. He can hopefully prevent Magic from further "He's gonna score 20 ppg this season cause I just sense it." kind of comments.

You are positioning Analytics as being solely focused for coaching decisions and then attacking that. What is the basis for the belief that Analytics is used solely for coaching decisions?

Golden State has won previously without Durant, so I will focus on the core three of Curry, Thompson and Green.

Curry -- #7 (2009)
Klay -- #11 (2011)
Green -- #35 (2012)

No top five picks and some other input beyond Analytics, but it appears that they drafted quite well.

Lacob didn't even buy the team until 2010 so Curry was drafted likely without the benefit of the GSW analytics squad.

That is correct. I should have verified the dates.

Sounds awesome. I loved Mitch but not having a top tier analytics guy was unacceptable for the Lakers. You don't have to be Morey or Cuban obsessed about them but you need to know what everyone else is looking at to make sure you aren't getting fleeced.

It's clear that VLF is crushing on Magic and Rob now. Crushing hard.

I spent all night reading his Harvard thesis and his formula comes down to this

X! + (Y) = Z

X!= young players
(Y)= overpaid contracts
Z= bad team

It seemed like it was a half-hearted attempt. Weren't we the only team in the league to not have a representative at the analytics forum? Now we have a guy who knows the entire league. They must've offered him a salary worthy of a Laker staffer. About time.
