Sources: Bulls' Nikola Mirotic hospitalized after practice altercation with teammate Bobby Portis

Chicago Bulls forwards Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis engaged in a physical altercation in practice Tuesday that resulted in Mirotic being hospitalized and sidelined indefinitely, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Mirotic was taken to the hospital Tuesday after their shoving altercation during practice ended with an alleged cheap shot from Portis to Mirotic’s face, league sources told The Vertical. Mirotic is undergoing tests, but is expected to be out for the foreseeable future, league sources said.

Mirotic, 26, is in his fourth NBA season and was expected to be the Bulls’ starting power forward. A sharpshooter at 6-foot-10, Mirotic signed a two-year, $27 million contract to return to Chicago in free agency before the season.

Portis, 22, was the Bulls’ 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

The Bulls need to just close. Just close the franchise and take it out of its misery.

I wish but I need the entertainment I grew up in the 90s in Bulls Country.

They deserve this.

That’s cold

But I do like Threekola and if he needs surgery Portis really lost the handle. So I hope all appropriate disciplinary and legal actions are taken.

If you punch your own damn teammate hard enough to send him to the hospital with facial fractures and a concussion, you’ve got some problems..

About as believable as the fake Bleacher Report saying Portis punched Mirotic because he spoiled an episode of Ballers.

Reading all this stuff, sounds like Mirotic charged at Portis twice before Portis finally leveled him.

When someone comes at you that many times, that person is asking to get pummeled. If the story is true, I think the Bulls should trade Mirotic and then give Portis a verbal lashing he won't forget.

If there was only a slight argument going on and Portis over reacted, then he should be traded.

Remember what Kermit Washington's career was like after he punched Rudy??

Think about that. He had the potential to have a really great career and it went to garbage.

A sucker punch to the face of your teammate? Why didn't he just wait for the guy to fall asleep to beat him or kick him in the nuts while he's not looking, it has just as much honor. Be a man and fight like one

If I'm the coach that guy would be in my dog house

It'll be interesting to see how Portis is treated by the club and the league office, as each has been mum about him. There's a big incentive for the league to gauge public reaction and respond accordingly, unfortunately. No hints of suspension so far, no criminal investigation. It's pretty outrageous.

An assault has apparently taken place. Whether on the gym floor or in the parking lot, actions like this would lead to you or I as plain old private citizens to be subject to a criminal investigation and workplace suspension - if not termination of employment, as the puncher. The rich get treated differently. No news that police are even looking into it.

There is an assault clause in an NBA contract, Chicago can dump Portia without payment.

I mean, Kobe punched Samaki Walker and Jordan punched Steve Kerr

But really, who does that to a teammate, using a CHEAP shot to send them to the hospital.

I imagine punches get thrown a lot more than reported. Sometimes they land and sometimes they break a jaw. A bunch of jocks jockin it up.

PS Mirotic, if you are ever engaged in verbal scuffles always be ready for the throw down. Don't get Mayweathered like Victor Ortiz

And if it was really a cheap shot, then they should drop him and the league should ban him from further participation. Let him go to Europe

Portis should brush up on his Mandarin or Urdu if he wants to continue his basketball career. Sucker punches are not taken lightly by the league.
