There are a variety of places where you can go look that up and maybe contribute what you've learned with the rest of us?

According to nba.com, the Lakers are holding teams to 31.9% shooting from 3 pt range (ranks 4th in the nba).

It seems they are not getting beat from the 3pt line. However, if they increase their % to about 34%, they will win many more games.

Opponents are shooting 30 threes per game against the Lakers and only making 31.9%. So the Lakers 3 pt defense seems to be negating their futility from there.

Lakers also rank 10th in opponent turnovers per game, pretty impressive.

It does go to show how defense is more important than offense, this is true.

I still can't tell if it's coincidence or because of defense that the other teams can't shoot from 3. Or maybe the Lakers poor shooting is contagious.

didn't one of those analytic guys @ ESPN do some work in this area, and conclude that an opponents 3 point shooting has minimal correlation to how good a team is defending....and it mostly averages out over time? Maybe Pelton?

The best defensive teams tend to defend 3-pointers well, though, so even though the latter doesn't necessarily mean you're defending well, it still seems to be a key component of a good defensive team.

We're #28 in FT% and #30 in 3pt%. Maintaining our defense, but our offense sucks. We need a decent shooting coach.

At least it seems that our defense is FOR REAL.
It's a great foundation going forward.

Agree with this 100%! And good defense leads to good offense if you can generate turnovers and fast break points.

Defense is holding this team afloat. I never thought after the past 5 yrs we can ever say that. If they can get on a hot shooting streak they’re gonna win a lot of games

If we can even fix one of the offensive issues between shooting a bit better from 3-point range or turning the ball over less, it's gonna help us so much.

Increasing our FT% would be huge too. With the pace we play at, and the youth of our team, we're going to have a lot of TOs - force a lot too. Shooting is our best bet. If we could be even just an average 3pt/FT shooting team, we'd be a playoff team with our D.

Amen. The Memphis Grizzlies model to becoming a playoff team. The thing is, as ugly as our play looks a lot of the time, going from a bottom-feeder to playoffs is much easier when you can play defense but have a poor offense than the other way around. As we saw on this road trip, defense is less affected in opposing arenas and is generally more consistent and reliable from game to game. Teams that try to win by merely outgunning the opponent are a dime a dozen in the NBA, while there aren't many teams that can actually play legit D.

We're in a better situation right now than anticipated, even if it doesn't seem apparent and the individual numbers aren't pretty.

Glad to see the massive improvement in defense compared to last season.

If we steadily improve in other areas we could possibly make a run at the 8th seed.

One step at a time, so far, so good.

just slightly out of 3rd (Portland)...I think we can get there over the next 5 games.

My goal was to stay in the top half for the season....but I am getting a little greedy....want to remain in top 10.

Absolutely stunned at the defensive ranking. Is this a product in Luke's coaching changing or different personnel? Would love to know how the defense is clicking so much this year.

I would think it's a little bit of both. Think about who is no longer on the roster (hell I'm counting Deng in here too) and who was added in the off-season. Every single one of the additions is a better defender than who they replaced. Nwaba was the only one who left who was any good at defending. I credit Magic and Pelinka for bringing in 2 way players as well. Some are a little 1 way currently, but I have faith the offense will come around.
