Manny Machado traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers
Craig Calcaterra
NBC SportsJuly 18, 2018, 2:29 AM GMT

This has been the worst kept secret all day, but Ken Rosenthal has now reported that, yes, Manny Machado has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The full return is not yet known, but Rosenthal says that outfield prospect Yusniel Diaz — who starred in the Futures Game on Tuesday — is part of the package heading back to Baltimore. Rosenthal says that other players, and the amount of money, if any, going from Baltimore to Los Angeles, is not yet known. It would make some sense, however, for the Orioles to do that. First, to secure a better package of prospects in return and second to help the Dodgers stay under the luxury tax threshold.

Man...Springer and Bregman (two Astro's) homering off a Dodger pitcher in the ASG to (most likely) win the game. Brings back bad memories.

Josh Hader exposed during the game after allowing the 3 run HR. I know these are 7 years ago when he was a teenager but holy (bleep).

It might be dumb kid jokes and he may have changed but this is a TERRIBLE look for baseball.

We're going to be out of the luxury tax, so we can open the checkbook to keep him without getting repeater taxed.

Our salary commitments are going to drop from $208m to $127m (that's of course before arbitration, re-signing Kershaw if he opts out, etc.

I heard that he only wants to play shortstop though...Next year, we'll have Turner at 3B and Seager at SS.

Yeah, we'll have to see where Seager is after coming back from injury. He wasn't projected to stay at SS forever. If he could move over to second that'd be awesome.

Hope he finally solves their problems with RISP. Their tendency to leave a gazillion runners on base drives me nuts.

Who are the possible arms we can bring in for next season? We're kind of on fumes at this point.

Would that look like Machado at SS, Seager at 2B, Turner/Muncy at 3B/1B, and Bellinger in the outfield?

I think so, yes. At that point (next season if Machado were re-signed), Taylor likely moves back to the outfield, and between he, Bellinger, Kemp, Joc, and Toles, we should have it covered. (And Kike can be a super-sub in both the outfield and infield.) For that reason, I still wonder if Verdugo could go out in a separate trade, if the Dodgers are really trying to go for it this season. In particular, deGrom would be a fantastic acquisition, since he's controlled through the 2020 season. If we were going for Hamels, I don't think we'd have to give up Verdugo. I do think we need to be in the market for at least one starting pitcher and at least one bullpen guy.

I'd flip Verdugo + prospects for deGrom any day and twice on Sunday. That would be an insane get.

Told you guys to be weary of the O's front office...

I bet it's a "nothing" type of issue, and they just want to get more out of us.

Just throw another no name prospect in there to call it a day. Can’t let another team to steal Manny away after we came this close.
