Puig needs to play every day, because when he's on he hits everybody, both RHP and LHP. His career numbers attest to this, as well as his performance during May, June, and July of this season when he was hitting well against LHP.
And clearly, he's found his stroke again. Along with his defense, and the fact that he was one of the team's best playoff performers last season, he should absolutely not be platooned.
I gotta say, though, Joc is a different story. He has no history of ever hitting LHP well with any consistency, and this year, his splits are drastic. Except in low-leverage blowout situations, he has no business being up there against a lefty.
Playoff outfield should be
Puig (RF, every day)
Bellinger (CF, every day, only because Muncy has to play and 1B is where he's the least liability)
Kempederson (LF platoon)
Any OF starts going to Taylor or Hernandez during the playoff push is wasted. They can either back up in the OF or get starts at 2B. |
I have to agree about Puig. He's locked in, and they may as well just play him against lefties too. I'm guessing you're still going to see Freese in there at first base tomorrow against Freeland, over Muncy. You might even see Taylor in there over Bellinger; it's just the way Dave seems to operate. Taylor is hitting well over his last 30 AB's or so, so who knows, maybe he's finally gotten hot at the right time. With Dozier struggling, I wonder what they are planning to do at 2B in the final 11 games. |
I actually forgot the other day that Dozier was still on the team. I think Kike and (gulp) Muncy are the best options at 2B. Maybe next year we move Corey there. |

I think Dozier needs some ABs. Second-half Dozier has been a real thing the past few seasons and, if/when he gets hot, he's a potent weapon. Good glove, too. |

Maeda dealing, I love all the swinging strikes he gets.
He understands attacking the zone and not nibbling and is bringing some nice heat and movement. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Haven’t been able to catch all the box scores lately, does Maeda usually only pitch one inning? Thought he would stay in, he was dealing |

Poor Chase can only hope to get hit or a strike out wild pitch to first. I do not understand that move by Roberts. |

Taylor walkoff. 1.5 game lead with Buehler going for the sweep tomorrow. |

I was out having a late dinner with my tennis buddies after we played tonight, but had the mlb.com Gamecast on my phone that I was looking at, and got excited when the screen changed to "Taylor homers on a fly ball to left."
A sweep would be huge. Put some real pressure on the Rockies, make them 2.5 back with 9 to play. |

It's 100% up to us to play even mediocre to get in. If we can't get in with 6 of the last 10 against the freaking Giants and Padres, just nuke the roster. _________________ KOBE |

The games against the Giants will be tough. It's at their place, and you just throw the records out the window at that point. It's rivalry time. But yeah, if we don't at least win the series against the Padres at a bare minimum, that will be unacceptable. |

left fielder did not move.....had my tv on mute and looked up and it was just a left fielder in defensive position, and I thought I saw a ball land in stands behind him with the crowd cheering/standing. Dude did not move. |

Dozier annually destroys in the 2nd half, and of course the Dodgers get him and he's hitting like .180 for us. |

Buehler seems to pitch well every time I have watched him this season....probably only been 4 or 5 times, but he always looks strong. |

Machado is really getting on my nerves. Double play ball and he can only give 50% running down the line. |

you guys are going to be an emotional mess by next April.....straight from very meaningful Dodger games into very meaningful Laker games....I assume for the first time in a while.
Not even counting the overlapping meaningful Rams games every week.... |

I just recall a game recently against the DBacks....maybe the Cardinals...he was just setting dudes down, then was really impressed when I looked at his age and he is like 23 or 24 years old. |
