Times's up.

Clutch Player
00.84 Kyle Farmer
00.70 Logan Forsythe
00.65 Matt Kemp
00.33 Breyvic Valera
00.30 Chase Utley
00.21 Andrew Toles
00.20 Brian Dozier
-0.05 Manny Machado
-0.06 Corey Seager
-0.07 Enrique Hernandez
-0.13 Chris Taylor
-0.14 Alex Verdugo
-0.17 David Freese
-0.29 Austin Barnes
-0.91 Yasiel Puig
-1.22 Justin Turner
-1.34 Joc Pederson
-2.15 Yasmani Grandal
-2.17 Cody Bellinger
-2.18 Max Muncy

Based on this one year, I think having Pederson, Grandal, Bellinger, and Muncy, on the same team is not optimal.

Even if you feel this way, is the NLCS the time to start talking about it?

Obviously I’m not going to change, I’m not the type of player that’s going to be ‘Johnny Hustle,’ and run down the line and slide to first base and … you know, whatever can happen. That’s just not my personality, that’s not my cup of tea, that’s not who I am.

Stop swinging for the San Gabriel Mountains -- Belli needs to stop golfing and level out his swing (Toles would be a nice replacement in the post-season).

I presume he was asked about it. It's a pretty lame answer. Sliding to first (which is stupid) and giving 100% effort down the line are not the same things. He's already cost the team a hit in the series by failing to do the latter.

Welcome to 21st Century baseball. It's about launch angle and exit speed and radical shifts. It's a different game, an inferior one as I see it.

Agreed. It's "evolving" like the NBA is with the 3's + dunk offense. MLB is all about homeruns now. No scrapping anymore.

The home runs are nice and all, but when games get tight, you need good AB's. Sometimes, all you literally need to do is to just make contact with the baseball and not strike out. That's it. Nothing more than that. The Astros strike out the least of any team in baseball. Think about how often we've had runners on base--runners on 3rd--this season with less than 2 outs, and how often we've failed. The "three true outcomes" approach is not ideal when all you need to do is just hit the ball, and it's not ideal when good pitchers can exploit it. Sure, you need some guys like that on your team, but it should be a mix. We don't have enough contact hitters on the team, guys that just put the bat on the ball like it's a valued skill. I think Andrew Toles could be like that with 450 AB's and it's why I've always been a fan.

I have a feeling we could see an offseason of heavy moves if we fail to make the World Series.

I don’t understand why teams don’t bunt to get on base when they are doing the extreme shifts away from third. A bunt is a mistake if it leads to an out, but if it’s almost a guaranteed hit because of the shift why not?

He acts like people are asking him to run a marathon. How hard can it be to run to first base? An chubby 8 year old can do it.

I don’t mind as much in the regular season, but in the playoffs when every out is so big, run it out. His comments suck. He basically admitted to being really lazy and having no heart.

Fortunately he has actually been hitting.

Edit: Isn’t trying to break up a double play something that Johnny Hustle might do? It wasn’t very smart, but at least it looked like Manny cared when he did that.

Dodgers have plenty of problems to solve. I don't see Manny Machado's lame answer as one of them.

Surfitall said it all in regard to Grandal. I would expect a 20-year-old AA catcher to hit .100 in the postseason, and perhaps they wouldn't even strike out nearly half the time, either! Oh, and along with that ridiculous hitting ineptitude, he's one of the worst FIELDING catchers in history. I would have been booing my ass off last night. Roberts apparently needs a clear message that changes are in order.

And I'll say it again: if you must play Grandal, why was he batting 7th last night? There's no defense for that. Get him out of there, and get Bellinger out of there too, while we're at it. We're just giving away outs. Taylor is a strikeout machine but he actually comes up with hits in the postseason. It's like we have 3 pitchers in our lineup right now.

Ditto -- Belli are Grandahl auto outs

If Bellinger does play he should be hitting 8th. But I’d be shocked if Roberts has the balls to do it.

Altuve just laid down a bunt for a base hit in the 7th inning with his team trailing, 3-2, with 2 outs, to get Bregman to the plate.

I’ve wondered about this recently, but I’m not sure what the odds are of getting a hit in that situation. You still have to lay down a good enough bunt and it’s not always that easy against a mid 90’s fastball with movement. Pitchers that try to lay down sacrifice bunts don’t always succeed even when they try to do it with 2 strikes on them.

Do the Dodgers ever bunt?

They need to start manufacturing some runs, pronto. If a guy is in tank, a bunt to move a runner into scoring position is a good play.
