Unfortunately, when they made the announcement yesterday, it was only a matter of time before he passed away. Anyone who has seen cancer waste away a human being can see at some point the treatment stopped working. RIP and I hope his family can find solace that he is no longer suffering.

from CNN's article on his death

"Asked how he wanted to be remembered, McCain said: 'He served his country, and not always right--made a lot of mistakes, made a lot of errors--but served his country, and, I hope we could add, honorably.'"

We can add that.

RIP. Unfortunately, another of a dying breed of tolerable conservatives and Congressmen who never were adjudicated for fraud, nor were completely hypocritical to their own stated values. The Obama correction didn't do him any favors with the people like the lady who asked the question back then either. McCain refused to backstab another American who he disagreed with on policy. Imagine that. It may have been a small gesture and in a better nation, one that maybe didn't deserve as much recognition as it got in the greater scheme of things, but it was desperately needed even in the 2008 zeitgeist.

RIP John McCain. You were a decent and honorable person in a town that has so few. I often disagreed with you but always knew you were doing your best to do what was right for us all.

Arizona sports stars to serve in John McCain's memorial

Quote:
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is one of six speakers who will pay tribute to McCain. Former Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez and former Coyotes forward Shane Doan will serve as pallbearers.
