Edit: and he said himself at his Lakers workout interview he had Jazz on Monday, so this was scheduled at least up through Friday.

He doesn't have any connection to the Lakers. Why would he and his family want to be drafted later? You make more money the earlier you are drafted.

Maybe he just likes Los Angeles?

I’m getting excited.

Though I’m guessing someone in front of us has offered him a promise. Who else has he worked out for?

So if you were Mark Cuban, would you trade Dennis Smith, Jr. to the Cavs and draft Trae Young at #5 ahead of Orlando? Bamba wouldn't fall past the Bulls, but the Mavs could come away with Carter.

Carter + Trae > DSJ + Bamba?

I'd do worse. I'd trade DSJ for #5, then potentially trade that #5 (or #4) for #12 and #13 for the Clippers.

DSJ is a hell of a shot creator, but that offensive motor wavers a bit.

Now it's, Bamba; Troy Brown, Lonnie Walker, Collin Sexton, Kevin Knox, Zhaire Smith; pick 2 wings.

They have too many small guards in Barea and Yogi anyway. May as well build an actual nucleus of guys in a position they really lack.

I like your wheelin' and dealin', but remember they would have to keep #5 to get Bamba. Would DSJ get #12/13 and cut out the middle man?

He doesn't have any connection to the Lakers. Why would he and his family want to be drafted later? You make more money the earlier you are drafted.

A contract that starts earlier, and guaranteed, gives the upside of a potential extended big time contract down the line.

Finish your rookie deal by what, age 24? So, if he's an All Star by then, max contract to age 29. Potentially 2nd max contract until 34?

Yes, that assumes full upside, but there's no guarantee he gains draft position if he stays.

See Miles Bridges and Robert Williams. Both guys basically fell 3-10 spots.

I was talking about him canceling the Utah workout so he could be drafted later by the Lakers. Doesn't make sense to me...

I could see them taking him. They need everything they can get.

He only cancels the Jazz workout if he has a promise ahead of them.

Anyone know he he has workouts for teams ahead of pick 19? I’d assume he would still go do those .

Huerter's worked out for the Hawks, canceled Jazz (apparently same day or day or two after Lakers workout), and those were the only two teams picking ahead of the Lakers at 25.

He worked out with Boston and Brooklyn picking after the Lakers.

Only other scoop I remember reading is that he interviewed with the Heat at the combine, they don't have a 1st but maybe they can trade into the draft.

Hearing Kevin Huerter has returned home to talk to his parents. The NBA's deadline for staying in or returning to school is this week. He has an interesting choice. He could be a lotto pick next season, or a mid-first this season.

Exactly what I was thinking. There's just no other explanation.

If ATL promised him and he wanted to cancel Utah workout, you’d think he would have done so earlier. Interesting timing.

Has he not worked out for any other teams ?

lol I'm speaking it into existence a bit there but to recap yes he has, only Atlanta higher than LAL:

I think that would make sense except that Utah has pick #21 so I don’t see why a promise from the Lakers would stop him from working out for a team with a better pick. Probably looking at least at $1M more over the life of his rookie contract.

It def lines up like he wants to be a Laker.
The Jazz would really have interest in him, but he cancels a couple days after working out with us.......
this is kind of blatantly beautiful imo

Maybe his agent has seen all of DLo, Ingram, and Randle's commercials..? Not likely to get that as a 25th pick, but Kuzma has crazy hype...

I remember reading right around the combine time he was going to meet with his parents and discuss before the deadline, and yet he still had that Jazz workout scheduled. Until Friday happened

Look, I’d love for us to draft Huerter I just don’t think a promise from the Lakers would be the reason he wouldn’t work out for the Jazz.
