Honestly when you watch all of Trae Young's possessions and not just the highlights, he doesn't look as great as the media has hyped him up to be. Sure he has the Curry release and makes some Ohio State DLO-esque passes, but I'm not seeing anything that screams definitive NBA star. Looks like a 6'0" Devin Booker to me.
He's leading the NCAA in scoring and assists. That's never been done before. What else can he do to impress you?
And he’s a freshman
And he's a freshman.
you have no significant questions about him and how his play will translate to the NBA? I definitely am not convinced he is a future NBA star as of today.
I have questions about all the top guys, and seeing how Young performs throughout the conference season - not just tonight - will help address those questions positively or negatively. The Big-12 is a gauntlet, and if he can maintain his shooting efficiency and ATR, I'll remain very excited about him.
Also, Jevon Carter is a grown ass man and the best guard defender in college. He's going to walk into the NBA as a defensive difference-maker from day one and give fits to guys like Harden even as a rookie.
Is this Jevon Carter fellow going to be available with that Nugs pick, potentially? _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way

my guess is no if he remains healthy....he was not showing up anywhere above 45ish earlier in the season on big boards and mocks....but it seems like more and more places are slotting him in the top 40. After tonight....sure he has a little more national name awareness. WVU will likely be ranked #3 this week....so that will not help in getting him to slip.
The guy has been Big12 1st Team All Defense every year including his Freshman season....was National Defensive Player of the Year last year...he is the real deal on defense. His offense and shot has improved each year....shooting 39.4% from 3 this season on 5 Attempts Per Game....but he will drafted mostly for his defense.
At the same time....he is 22 Years Old, so he is not going to climb up into the lottery or anything....if he is the guy you want, and he is on the board early in the 2nd Round.....try to go get him. The Denver 2nd and Cash? The Denver 2nd and a future 2nd? That is if our scouting department/FO was high enough on him. Him and Hart could be tough on defense in that 2nd unit!
Tremont Waters is the Isaiah Thomas type guy that I'd love to give a shot to......
5'11-6'0
Quickest PG I've seen in the draft easily, looks like a pure shooter off the dribble too. Floater game. Hops to finish. He's had some reallly impressive games. Freshman
Quickness
with finishing knack
got the knack
off-time floaters, all types
connecting multiple moves, he beat him on the last one
little guy slithery like Thomas!
slithery with finishing!
finishing knack!!!
Yank!
omg
42% from 3, off the dribble, NBA range.. freshman... This kid is as good as Freshman Isaiah Thomas, and taller/longer. Wow and they went to the same high school!

That's exactly who I thought of as well. More PG skills, but overall game seems to be reminiscent of Booker than Curry.

Right. Not that that's a terrible thing, especially for a team picking 5-14. But to me his shot selection looked pretty bad.
LaVar says Lakers will be drafting LiAngelo next year.
We won’t be drafting him, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he somehow ended up on our Summer league roster
I doubt it at this point, with the way Lavar's running his mouth. You think Luke and the FO are going to want to do him any favors after this whole saga with him since the season began? They never owed him anything to begin with, and would be seen as absolute pushovers if they kowtowed to him now.

I don't know who here is subscribed to The Athletic, but all the guys we like go before the Lakers pick at #51. Mock was made by Vecenie. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
thought that was a pretty fair evaluation of both players night....Young on Offense and Carter on Defense. They pointed out some of the items I found impressive about Young even while he was struggling to score and create at times.
I watched one Hutchinson highlight, looks to be solid. When I don't see really good ball handling against that low division comp, I tend to worry that it'll fall apart in the nba. I guess that's fine though because that wouldn't be his role. I don't remember his athleticism.. anything semi advantage-ish?
