Do you eat the ugly parts or do you avoid them like a bad part of town?

Cancerous? on banana?

The gasses used to ripen them or?

Bananas are a trip for my palate ..

I feel like they are one of the healthiest things on the planet and can sometimes eat them a few days straight.. then.. they start to have that weird mushy feeling that just doesn't go down well..

I'm talking about the browned, undead parts

I wont eat a banana unless it's browned a bit, otherwise it's not that sweet.

I like my bananas just past green, and while I will eat a bruised patrt, past a certain point they get used in a smoothie or mashed in some porridge.

I do what I'm not supposed to. I keep my bananas in the refrigerator. If I don't they get brown fast. In the frig they keep their color an flavor. Even there you can't keep them to long. My last fresh 10 days or more.

Irish oatmeal with some banana is actually pretty good. Good change of pace from raisins or brown sugar. The joys of a post-cardiac incident diet...

No brown!

All of that has to be excised and carefully destroyed. Not even in smoothies dog....

When they get ripe you can take them off the stalk and it slows down the ripening process.

Oh I have bananas in oatmeal, along with peanut butter. I guess I just don't associate that with "porridge" because of it's lumpiness.

Speaking of Irish oatmeal, what's the benefit over Quaker 1 minute oatmeal? I don't really want to spend 15 minutes softening up oats in the morning and I feel like I get enough fiber from the Quaker cylender.

Enjoyed the wonders of emergency transport and a full cardiac workup for some unstable angina presenting as a heart attack. Went from "I don't take anything and never go to the doctor" to having a cardiologist and a drug and diet regime to keep me from actually having the big one.

Ohhh (bleep) I'm really sorry to hear that...yeah, Irish oatmeal everyday is better than death. Take care of yourself, and congrats on being done with greasy, salty garbage for the rest of your long life.

It's not that bad really, and I already quit smoking last year and began to accept that I can't eat like a teenager. I have cheat days, but for the most part I'm at 1500 mg or less of sodium, 200 mg of cholesterol, and 12-13 g of saturated fat. I already like a lot of healthy stuff, so it is really just cutting out some bad habits and being aware of how much salt is in (bleep) everything. Egg whites in a corn tortilla are actually tasty.

Yup...sodium is legion. Sneaks onto the labels of the things we don't think of as monstrously salty, like breads and dairy.

I'm in a spiral right now...I've been eating absolutely everything I want for the past year, and I work out intensively everyday so delude myself into thinking I'm balancing out. Weight is static but I can feel the innards corroding...I don't even want to take my BP until I've put in a hard month of light eating. Might be time to grow up. You're right, eggs cooked on a nice non-stick with no oil and some warm white corn tortillas are great.

Only in America. I prefer my cereal with blueberries and banana slices. If you call yourself a Laker fan, you gotta eat something P&G for breakfast...

Having a mango/banana/orange/grape smoothie right now. And yes I did avoid the ugly banana part like a Fox News broadcast.

Actually eating right really makes you realize how wrong your previous "I eat well" diet was. And you find silly things like a cheeseburger become gold when you only have one every blue moon. I was super excited to find a low salt ramen with quality noodles (I'm a sucker for ramen but it is like 2000 mg sodium!), and i find that putting a quarter serving (and yes, now i portion stuff out by the actual serving size) of organic Cheetos or cheesitz in with some unsalted nuts and raisins actually satisfies me as much as eating a whole serving of the crap.lots of raw veggies, kind bars, fruit, peanut butter, legumes, and four ounces of meat per day, and sometimes none.

I eat them for their potassium content. I'll try taking them off the stalk to slow the ripening.

Generally not down with the brown, personally.

But sometimes, with browned bananas, I'll freeze them to use them later to make banana bread.

If the browning is only slight on the cados, in a pinch, I'll use them for guacamloe.
