He's been playing well, and now this. He had some knee issues last year. I wonder if this was one reason Magic and Rob shipped him out.
Quote:
NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Riley Williams III at the Hospital for Special Surgery. No timetable for his return was announced.
"It's an arthroscopic surgery, so the plan would be for him to return this season," general manager Sean Marks said. "It's definitely frustrating for D'Angelo. He's going into this as another challenge. He knows he'll bounce back from this and we have no doubts in our mind that he'll be better and stronger than he was before."
Yikes. That sucks. Love D'lo but it's looking like trading him was the best move. Hopefully he can put his health behind him a la Steph post 2012 or whatever

This is what I’m hoping for. People thought that Steph was going to be too frail to stay in the league and this that and the third and we can see where that went so...
His knees worried me much more than his game did when he was here.
Skillwise he looks to be a shoe-in as an all-star caliber player for many years, except every time he has a knee "thing" he regresses a bit and it takes him awhile to catch back up.
I worry this might be a chronic issue for him. He's not knock-kneed like Andrew was, but he does have baby deer legs sometimes.

Did anyone ever figure out what exactly was so bad about Bynum's knees? Were the initial injuries caused by Odom and Kobe falling into his knees just freak accidents, or would those not have caused injuries to a player with normal knees? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

May as well just start packing LeBron's bags to Philly while we're at it. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Odom didn't fall into Bynum's knees. Bynum stepped on Odom's foot, which somehow dislocated his kneecap, iirc. Odom gets a bum rap for that all the time.

Shameless self quote incoming. Looks like I was off by about 6 months though.

Many times when players get PRP mid season, it is because they are trying to buy time before an inevitable surgery. Will bump this in May if it turns out to be the case.

Close enough. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
Any concern for long term? Should be 4-6 weeks right?
Hard to say when the team is not giving any insight. Arthroscopic surgery is just the name of the technique of going in with a camera and a knife. The amount of work they did in there would decide the time frame.

Kind of a hybrid landing and stepping mishap, but full weight of body involved, which seems to be the most important aspect. You can see his leg/knee torque on the sideline angle. That said, the 1997 Shaq injury was the toe of his shoe landing square on the heel of an opponent and he had major surgery and a leg cast and wheelchair. His was a tendon thing, tho, but those landings are killers. In Shaq's case, that hyperextension of his leg backward made you wanna puke looking at it. And as you probably recall, the Minnesota doctor cleared him to go back out and do more damage to it. He did 5 more trips and 2 dunks before checking himself out.
Bynum:
Priz's patella dislocated on the first hop before that landing that surely didn't help. At 4 secs, you can see his knee pop when it hit the ground if you replay it right. He landed the first time and it looks like an explosion in his knee. I read that he reinjured himself while slipping in the shower and needed another surgery on it.
Mutombo did it to himself. It appeared to be a misplaced toe and a hop too. That was his career ender.
In this one involving Oden, it looked like the injury took place on the jump, not the landing. His left leg seemed to shoot back in a weird way before he even fell and grabbed it.

Injuries are (increasingly) killing the NBA competition.
Maybe the talent is too much dilluted.
Is there any stats on average games lost to injury per team / season? _________________ -----------------------------------------------------
