|
|
I've been a laker fan for over 30 years. I live in NY so I don't get a chance to see my team as much in person. I've been to several Knicks and Nets games vs the Lakers. I was even at Kobe 61 point game at the Garden and I was also at Pau Gasol's first game as a Laker, versus the Nets. But my dream, is to come to LA and see a Lakers game at Staples. I want to see statues outside, the banners inside and maybe get a glimpse of Jack. But most of all, I want to see the Gold Jerseys in person. That is like, the most traditional Laker asset.
So now Nike has come along and ripped tradition away from us. I would be pissed off if/when I come to Staples to see a game and the team decides to wear the purple jerseys, which I love, but I see them every time I go to a game. I also don't want to head to game in NY, walk in and my first experience with the Gold Jersey's are in MSG or Barklay's Center! THAT IS NOT LAKER TRADITION!
I really hope that the NBA or the Lakers themselves change this. In a small way, its ruining the Laker fan experience.
Last night, Puple Jersey, Staples Center Lakers floor..... WRONG, on so many levels! |

it was already bad when we'd wear our gold on the road cuz another wore their special jersey. Now it's all helter skelter where the home team can literally wear any uniform they want
So stupid |

What's worse is that what nike and the nba originally said was that the home team picks whatever they want and then the road team can match. So from there, either:
1) We chose to wear purple at home, which is really dumb. I kind of doubt Magic would choose that, which leads to option two:
2) Nike/the NBA forced us to wear purple at home, which means they lied about the home team choosing.
It is also strange that we knew ahead of time we would be wearing the purple jerseys 4 games in a row, when two of those games are road games. _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

Considering they went home whites a while ago, I think the almighty dollar is bigger than tradition. |

While we're at it…I dislike he white unis. Like, a lot. Weren't we the only team in the league without white unis or did I make that up? Either way no thank you. Don't even get me started on the black unis.
Oh well. Gotta sell more jerseys and all that. I get it. I just don't have to like it. |

Nike has no say...The NBA dictates the rules and the Lakers chose to wear them. Nike may have pushed during negotiations to allow it, but it still comes down to the team. |

Nike had specific rules set inclusive of no statement jerseys until late November, and probably had other minimum jersey wear rules in order to get all of their jerseys popularly displayed early in the season. I am hoping after this season, we'll settle back into a normal rotation. |

All of the issues are created by Nike's "moratorium" period where they restricted teams from wearing their Statement jerseys until after Thanksgiving.
-Lakers couldn't wear purple till now so now the team is making up for it by wearing it more often
-Lakers couldn't wear anything but gold(yellow) causing them to wear white on days other than Sunday to add diversity
I would expect things to normalize now that the Lakers have all 3 jerseys to wear. It's also not expected that the Thanksgiving moratorium for jerseys will happen again in years going forward.
Now the real issue that the Lakers need to address is the pigment of the gold on our jerseys causing them to look yellow. Our players and fans hate them. Walton has bashed them. The Lakers apparel department has literally had to reject the use of the accessories supplied by Nike because they were downright lemon colored. |

Totally agree OP!! Dislike the money grab motive behind all this.
Also, is it just me or are our yellow jerseys brighter (not in a good way). |

Gold at home should be sacred.
No white, no baby blue, no purple, just gold. Period.
I don’t even wanna see the opposing team wearing white at Staples, but I know that may be asking for too much. |

I’m going to be real and say that I spend absolutely zero time in my Laker fandom thinking about this issue. And I was actually surprised at how upsetting this is the other fans. So now that I know that this is a real concern for a lot of fans; what is the deal with Nike and why is this such an issue now? |
