Isnít it time for some experimentation?

In spite of his point total, isnít Lopezís lack of shooting an impediment to any reasonably good offense in that starting lineup?

Lopez can get better, and maybe he will, but until then try someone else; try a better shooter there.

The games where Lopez is hitting threes are games where this team looks COMPLETELY different. Getting offense and shooting from both Kuzma and the starting center is imperative to the teamís success.

Iím only making a suggestion. Only asking the question that maybe, just maybe the guy whos making 18 million, the guy at home collecting checks, the guy who wants to be bought out, the guy who needs to be traded this offseason ó maybe he can actually contribute and add something to this team.

How many games must be lost before they actually experiment with new players on the depth chart?

Even if Randle is eventually promoted to the starting lineup, why not still try a different look at Center and bench Lopez a few games.

They need shooting there. That is clear as day to me. If Lopez makes a couple of threes a game the complexion of the team changes.

Get a guy in that spot who can knock them down: Deng, Bryant, Villanueva, it doesnít really matter who as long as that guy can help spread the floor.

Since Deng is already here, and doing absolutely nothing, why not try him out?

There is absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain, IMO ... and if he does play well, it just might cost you one less first rounder to jettison him this offseason.

Win, win all around ... and if it fails, send him back home to eat Bon-Bons and watch soaps.

agreed.
i think lakers are trying to force him to take a buyout?

other than 2013, deng's 3p% is better than 30%. ~35% for 2014 and 2015

given his limited speed, i would play him at the 4.
he shoots better than nance and randle.

i rather see:
ball/kcp/bi/kuz/lopez
clarkson/hart/brewer/deng/randle

nance is just too much of a liability for shooting and randle is a better C than nance.

if we can catch lightning in a bottle, his trade value will go from horrible to something better.
hopefully his 3p shooting contributes more than his defense hurts

Iíve stayed away from talking about the elephant in the room here hoping that someone else would point out the obvious, but someone please tell me why it is ridiculous to suggest actually playing the guy that you MUST trade this summer.

The ability to trade Deng could literally be the difference between either losing Randle or losing out on another max.

Playing Deng is kind of important in this regard.

Teams want to at least see what theyíre acquiring, even if he (Deng) wouldnít necessarily be the main asset in the package..

Agree with this. If Luke is insistent on a 10 man rotation, try Deng instead of Brewer for a few games (at least 3-5) and see how it goes.

If youíre talking of playing Deng at SF, youíre no better than Kupchak & Lucky Sperm.

Deng is a bigman now, strictly.

Stevens said recently there are only three positions in basketball now: Point guard, wing and bigman

I agree. And in this model, Deng IS NOT a wing. Heís a bigman.

Itís because he is a bigman that he shouldíve never been signed in the first place.

Simply put, Deng would be better guarding Anthony Davis than he would be guarding James Harden, but itís in his versatility and ability to guard a little bit of both that will actually help the team defense.

Factor in shooting and the answer seems quite clear to the question of what change should be made next.

Kuzma should be starting, to me thatís a nobrainer, but so should Deng in supplanting Lopez.

It just makes too much sense. Whoís coming with me?

I never said play him at SF I said play him instead of Brewer, i.e. give him Brewer's minutes.

But Brewer gets 95% of his minutes at defensive SF, so youíre indirectly calling for Deng to play defensive SF.

Not at all. I want fewer minutes for Lopez, Hart and Nance as well as more minutes for Randle and Kooz.

Weíre thinking the same then. I just, obviously and bluntly, see Deng as a bigman these days, thatís all.

I donít care if he starts or comes off the bench really, as long as he plays strictly at PF and Center and he replaces the inferior Lopez.

The problem is that the rotations are kind of tough with him in the mix. I guess maybe something like:

Lonzo 30 / JC 18
KCP 32 / JC 16
BI 32 / Kooz 16
Kooz 16 / Nance 17 / Deng 15
Randle 30 / Lopez 18

maybe that would work?

I don't think it would hurt to give Deng some minutes from the vets who are not going to be here next season.

That said, I doubt it will change his tradeability significantly. That will depend on threading the needle of a team that has enough expiring contracts and wants the assets we'd be willing to throw in to accept his toxic contract (probably Randle).

But I am skeptical that Deng could come in and play well enough to materially change how much a team would want him apart from the other elements of the deal.

And it's certainly possible he could come in and suck, making a trade even a tiny bit more difficult.

Deng can play our back up 4, after Dec. 15. Anthony Irwin suggested a trade involving KCP, Clarkson, & Nance for PG13 & Abrines. Sounds good to me.

Not too bad of a trade. JC would be moved regardless to clear cap, KCP is expiring. So basically the only longer term asset we give up is Nance.

Abrines is a shooter too, right? If so I like that deal.

Thatís decent value for OKC.

Gives the Lakers Georgeís Bird Rights too, thatís significant.

Even though everyone knows heís got eyes for LA, can OKC get more from somewhere else? Probably not, but you have to ask.

thought okc wants to cut salary.
if they let kcp go because he is pricey, then it is just nance and clarkson.
how is that?

I doubt they are interested in trading PG.
