JC Ramirez needs Tommy John surgery. This is already 2 starters down, and Ramirez is most certainly done for the year. Who knows with Shoemaker. Heaney is going to return later this week, but this was always going to be the big worry with this team. Can they get through enough innings with their rotation?

Shohei Ohtani was not in the Angels' starting lineup against the Rangers on Tuesday, though manager Mike Scioscia said the two-way phenom will be available to pinch-hit or pinch-run if needed.

I like them to at least get a wild card in the AL. It's going to be really tough to beat out the Astros for the division title because their starting pitching just appears to be so much deeper, and of course they have talent all throughout the lineup as well. But if Richards and Ohtani were healthy going into a 5-game series in the ALDS (if they either won the divison or won the wild card game to get to the division series), they would have a shot against anyone because the lineup is deep and the defense is outstanding.

The clear worries are the health of the starting rotation (literally everyone they have is an injury risk in some way) and the bullpen. The 'pen has held up well so far, but Parker is already not close to the same guy that he was last season (velocity down to 91 MPH) and he's been replaced by Middleton as the closer, and Middleton is unproven in that role. That doesn't mean he can't do a good job, but it's a worry. Still, if the Angels are contending and July comes, I'm sure they could try to at least add a rental bullpen piece that wouldn't cost much. Or a starting pitcher that's a rental.

If he keeps this up for another couple of months and if Calhoun doesn't elevate his hitting, I could see he and Shohei switch spots in the order.

Been watching the Kings game tonight so I didn't see all of the game, but I did see the 8th inning where Cozart singled and then Ohtani singled, setting up the comeback.

Can you imagine if this kid is a Hideki Matsui-like hitter in the big leagues (or better) and an ace-like pitcher as well? The Dodgers should have promised him LF at-bats LOL.

The offense has been on fire. Parker doesn't look like he has it this season, though, which could be a worry, even if Middleton does fine as the closer. They'll need the likes of Jim Johnson, Blake Wood, and Bedrosian to step up, and Bedrosian has been very iffy since returning from an injury last season. But Alvarez has been nearly unhittable so far, and he's been inconsistent before this season. If he could keep this up, it's big to have that lefty in the pen that you can rely on.
