Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid suffered an orbital fracture that will require surgery and also has a concussion, the Sixers said Thursday.

Surgery to address the orbital fracture in his left eye will be performed in the coming days, the team said.

ESPN's Zach Lowe reports that, pending the results of the surgery, Embiid could return in 2-4 weeks. The 76ers have clinched a spot in the playoffs, which begin April 14.

Embiid suffered the injuries Wednesday night in a nasty collision with teammate Markelle Fultz during the Sixers' 118-101 win over the New York Knicks.

He was initially evaluated in the locker room and later taken to Jefferson Hospital for further evaluation and testing.

He's looked okay since he's come back the last two games. He's shooting still not there but otherwise he's showing the skills that they drafted him for. He had a strange start to his career, but I think this Sixers are going to be happy they took him in the end

Would you trade Ball for him?

Philly has the talent. Can it stay healthy is the question.

Embiid is having Andrew Bynum luck, his teammates are injuring him.

No idea -- anyone's guess which of them will be better in the long run
