Phantom Menace > The Last Jedi
Wow
I thought TFA was bad but this one's worse than Phantom Menace? I was hopeful after Rogue One but not surprised either. It seems like user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB are lower than critics' reviews which is not something I usually see.
They certainly picked the right time for a release as it has little competition this holiday season. I think I'll go see the Shape of Water instead. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant
Other than her it wasn't terrible but it definitely isn't "the best Star Wars since Empire" as most are saying. It's on par with Episode 1/2 which should tell you everything you need to know.
I liked it. Some people seem mad that it wasn't a Empire clone.
Little slow in the middle, but I wonder how much film had to be cut out for the sake of not making it a 3 hour movie? Feels like their was some character development missing. I wonder if there would ever be a directors cut for this.

What a disappointment that movie was, it just completely blew. It was boring the pace of it even if it is for Disney was just long. The acting and or the actors and dialogue are not completely engaging at all. I just hated it and I went in with meh expectations because of the last movie.
I liked it overall. There are things I didn't like (Rose storyline, that Princess Leia scene) but overall it was good. From checking social media, I think most of the people that are outraged feel that way because they made a lot of theories on things that didn't up mattering.
It's definitely not an Empire clone. I also get the feeling that the people who hate this one also hate TFA for being like A New Hope. It's like they actually wanted this to be like Empire.
My ranks:
1. Empire
2. A New Hope
3. Jedi
4. TFA
5. TLJ (this could go above TFA with some rewatches, maybe even Jedi. it won't go lower)
6. Rogue One
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. Attack of the Clones
9. Phantom Menace
I like how there was no special connection with Rey/her parents. I hated all the theories after TFA of her being a Skywalker or Kenobi and Finn being a Windu or Calrissian.
The needless humor killed it for me. The original Star Wars (and Rogue One) used the droids for some humor/levity and there was very minimal humor from the main characters. And the humor was dry humor (Han) not Big Bang Theory/sitcom humor (Rose/Rey/Poe/everyone).
If they cut out Rose's character (the humor/fangirling/love story) and the cheap humor the movie would have been much better.
Also the Laura Dern character was annoying. Why be a b**** and not just explain your plan to Poe? There was no reason for it to be secret.
I will rewatch once its on Bluray but I think TFA was better, Rogue one is definitely better as well. It sucks because Kylo can be such a great character but they havent written him that well yet.

I enjoyed it.
In hindsight, I should not have even read those quick Twitter spoiler-free reviews from the world premiere though. It colored my viewing experience a bit because they made it seem like some jaw-dropping unexpected twist occurred, and for me that didn't happen at all.
I thought the movie was solid though.

You and I have basically the same ranking. I definitely think we are in the minority of fans thinking that The Force Awakens is the best of the last 3 SW movies (at least at this stage with only 1 viewing of TLJ).
My rating for the last 3 movies is essentially:
1. The Force Awakens - Very good
2. The Last Jedi - Pretty good
3. Rogue One - Not good
My view of these movies goes according to how much I like/care about the characters and enjoy their interactions.
I felt that The Force Awakens was the strongest because of Harrison Ford and Daisy Ridley's characters/performances and so it doesn't bother me that it's a soft reboot of A New Hope. It's the most fun movie of the last 3.
In all likelihood, Star Wars movies will never be as fun going forward since Harrison Ford/Han Solo will no longer be a part of them (I know we're getting a Han Solo movie next yr, but c'mon, it's not Harrison Ford). But his involvement was so vital to how much I enjoyed Star Wars movies and you really feel that loss over the last two films (especially Rogue One, which has the most dull characters in the history of the films).
Solid performance by Mark Hamill in The Last Jedi though. I liked him and Adam Driver's performances the most. Daisy Ridley was not as good as she was on TFA, but I blame that more on the writing for her character not being as strong this time around.
Great movie. Liked it more than Force Awakens and all of the prequels. I can see why the fan boys don't like it. SW fan boys never like anything other than the OG trilogies.
I want some good pacing, decent acting, and interesting fight scenes. I stopped caring a long time ago about the intricacies of the story.
I'll see this because I have 2 weeks off work and I'm a MoviePass owner.
How does MoviePass work? Is it only select theaters/showings? Sounds too good to be true.
It's $10 per month and there are a few catches that I think are completely reasonable given the cost. There are no blackout dates. There are some theaters that won't accept it but they are few (in LA I believe it's just Arclight and Landmark that won't allow it). You can only see one movie every 24 hours. 3D showings and Imax are out. The biggest one is that you have to be within close proximity to the theater in order to claim your ticket. So no buying tickets far in advance. So while you could use it to see Star Wars on opening night, you probably can't because it would be sold out when you got there.
Other than that it's amazing. I saw 4 movies last month for $10 total.
Sick. I have a small theater within walking distance of my new place. This is right up my alley.
Wow. Not sure how I feel about the mixed reviews. Might take my son to see it before the Rams play tomorrow. He liked the last one a lot. BB-8 is "cooler" than R-2, apparently. Maybe the changes and direction the franchise is taking is for the YOUNGER generation? Could that be the reason for the mixed reviews? _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same."
