really?
has there been talk about that already?
we retire the jersey's of former players (that played a big part of their career with Lakers) that are voted into the Hall of Fame....Gasol will be in the Hall of Fame. It is my understanding, we do not really have a vetting process beyond...in the HOF=in the rafters.
Two have 5 rings and the other has 2. What Pau has or hasn’t done in the Olympics has nothing to do with the Lakers. I know the lakers policy is you have to be a HOFer. But personally, I go with Coop and Fish first. Heck, if you go strictly on clutch shots and the 2002 playoffs, throw #5 Horry up there before Pau. #sorrynotsorry

If Gasol doesn’t get his jersey hung that would be a travesty. 2nd best player on a team that won 2 rings and went to 3 straight finals. He deserves it way more than Scott or Cooper.

No chance. I think people discredit Pau cause he’s a Euro, otherwise it makes no sense.

This.
And there is no doubt Pau's jersey will be retired, as it should be.
Pau is a no-brainer and deserves his jersey retired. Coop is my second favorite Laker of all time behind Magic, and he was better and more valuable than people realize. I would love for 21 to be retired but it won't happen.
When he makes the HOF, it's only a matter of time. My guess is it obviously won't happen as quickly as Kobille/Shaqobe, but eventually. And unlike Worthy, for whom they dragged their feet (as a 12 year career Laker and a probable/eventual HOFer down the road), I think Pau will have to actually make it in to the HOF first since he didn't play his full career here. But it'll happen. Back in the 90s, I remember even some discussion about whether Worthy belonged up in the class of players they had at that time festooning the wall. After James, they quickly put up Goodrich because he was in the HOF and later Jamaal got in right after he made the cut (HOF selection be damned or not). We seem to be going by the titles and/or HOF criteria. He'll make it. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Agreed. Byron had a large role, but I think Coop would have the more compelling argument. Full Laker career, won a major award, known for being tasked with defending the other team's superstar, covered a variety of players from Kevin Johnson to Larry Bird (same argument Dennis Rodman's advocates always bring up on his behalf). Tenacious attitude on top of it.
Scott tended to not play very well vs Boston and Chicago on the road, otoh. Maybe gets more and more forgotten as the decades pass, but not for the nEeeeEErrdZ! like me (say it like Ogre). Mike stole his milk money in 91. I hate how the fake narrative that lingers is that Pippen "shut down" Magic when, #1, he didn't even guard Earv 1:1 for more than a single game, and #2, when Magic was the only guy who pretty much lived up to his RS performance while facing a deliberate double team all series long and while beating up on Jordan 1:1 in the post. Byron was completely invisible. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
For a guy who saved Kobe's career and the Lakers as a franchise, it's depressing how underrated Pau is by his own fanbase. _________________ If Brandon Knight were to come out, I would take him number 1 in the draft. - Magic Johnson Mar 27, 2011

The next Lakers number to be retired? Pau Gasol's No. 16. Gasol is just the 18th player in NBA history to score at least 20,000 points and grab at least 10,000 rebounds. The other 17 players are either in the Hall of Fame or will be (Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett).

A little dramatic, but yeah, we needed that trade. Had every piece on the team but the #2 guy, and everyone sort of fit into their natural places once he joined. _________________ A banana is killed every time a terrible thread or post is made. Save the bananas. Stop creating terrible posts!

Pau.
Hall of famer. 2x champ. Best years as a Laker.
You have to be in the Hall to get your number up there, and if his NBA career somehow isn’t enough, add in his Euroleague and olympics contributions, man is a basketball hall of famer.
I hope he can somehow finish his career in the purple and gold. _________________ We pour this booze and we drink this booze because we think it's yummy. YUMMY! So over the tounge and down the throat to party in our tummys.
DOWN THE HOLA BITC*OLA!!!
this could have been an interesting topic without the much much obvious Gasol superiority over the other 2. add Odom and we can talk about why neither of them deserves to be up there _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82
