PostPosted: Sun Jan 07, 2018 5:12 am    Post subject: Is LaVar right? Has Luke lost the team?

"You can see they're not playing for Luke no more," LaVar said from the spa resort in Birstonas where he is staying while his two youngest sons get ready to make their professional debuts. "Luke doesn't have control of the team no more. They don't want to play for him."

"That's a good team," he added of the Lakers, who have lost nine straight games. "Nobody wants to play for him. I can see it. No high five's when they come out of the game. People don't know why they're in the game. He's too young. He's too young. ... He ain't connecting with them anymore. You can look at every player, he's not connecting with not one player."

- LaVar Ball

I have been saying that the Lakers have no cohesion. They don't shake hands after free throws, they don't act like they appreciate each other, they don't pass more than once or twice, they don't help each other on defense, they show zero charisma or desire to play hard and win. And then there are the fundamentals: poor free throw shooting, unforced turnovers, missing defensive stops at key times, losing games late. These are all the signs of a team that has given up.

If LaVar is correct, he will keep going on and on about it. Our Lakers are imploding. i hate to see this.

I hate to agree with him, but in this case there’s a good chance he’s right. And that is supposed to be Luke’s strength.

The Lakers are a dumpster fire. Trace it all back to hiring Magic Johnson.

Which you can trace back to the team-sabotaging owner

I was wondering this myself. Is it Luke's fault or the team's fault that the players have quit? I guess it could also be management or players giving up on a losing culture. It is disturbing to see the star's dad come out and say the coach has lost the team. Even if you think he's a loud mouth or what have you, there has to be some truth in that. He would know if his son and the team were interested or not.

The Lakers have been a dumpster fire for 4-5 years; long before Magic was in charge.

We are a dumpster fire but Jim and Mitch lit the match.

LaVar makes crazy proclamations and he’s a showman but there is some truth in what he says. Imo Luke has lost **some** of the team. I don’t think the 2018 draft class has been here long enough unless they are that impressionable.

Media is going to run with this and say Lonzo hates Luke but this is LaVar talking on his own.

The guys that Walton has lost, imo:
Randle
Clarkson
Zubac
Lopez

KCP is in outer space.

If you lose half the team, it’s going to look bad and it does.

I've been saying it for weeks. It's so visible and obvious that something has to be done. We just can't go on like this. Players have to be moved or Luke has to be fired.

So much for toning it down. I guess Lavar didn't get the memo during the meeting with the Laker brass

He's half way across the world! And by the time he gets back, all will be forgotten. He don't care, he shot his shot!

This is the conclusion I've come to also.

It's not entirely Luke's fault though. A lot of if has to do with the front office I think. Luke has no credibility because he's always talking about guy needed to play the right way, but we've seen periods where KCP and Clarkson are seeming allowed to do whatever they want on the court. Luke has said guys need to earn the right to be on the floor late in games, but we've seen Lonzo and Ingram finish games no matter how poorly they play.

I don't think Luke is trying to be inconsistent or evasive when it comes to answering basic questions. I think the front office is forcing him to do certain things and Luke can't throw them under the bus (no should he).

Woooooah wooooah woooooah he really said that??? Wooooooaaaaaawww!!!!

He is connected to the team through his son, he is not just some analyst or someone commenting on the game, it is assumed that whatever he says comes from Lonzo or that Lonzo concurs. Man he will put both Lonzo and Lakers in a very tough spot. You just cant have stuff like that coming from him.

Normally I really like him but he should know his boundaries because Lonzo will face the heat for the comments he makes. Come on LaVar. Seriously.

Everything that you just posted is correct. Unfortunately though, everything that said Lavar is 100% right. He shouldn't have said but, he's not wrong in his assessment.

Luke has never dealt with real criticism as a coach; maybe this will light a fire under his ass. Though I doubt it. The guy is like the VladRad of coaches.

Now, it would get reeeaallllyy interesting if it came out that Lacar was simply Lonzo’s mouthpiece.

Luke is surrounded by too many of his buddies; he needs to restructure his staff or he will end up in the unemployment line sooner than he would like.
