Satoshi Kon left this earth too soon. If you enjoy Japanese animation - or any animated works - Kon's four films (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika) and television series ( Paranoia Agent) are all worth multiple watches. He was fascinated by how animation could be used to explore the worlds within our minds moreso than the giant robots of his predecessors. Kon was a true titan of animation before his premature death due to cancer at age 46 (2010). _________________ Under New Management |

I agree with you. I have not seen any previous version, but I thought that it could have been better. I really like Bradley Cooper as an actor, and I thought he was very good. I thought that Lady Gaga was solid with her acting, and of course she's close to a nonpareil singer. I thought that Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and even Dave Chappelle played their supporting roles quite well. My biggest issue was actually with Cooper's direction of the film.
Overall, I did like it, but I definitely did not love it. |

The Sisters Brothers is one of the greatest Westerns ever filmed. It's on a par with Unforgiven. _________________ Under New Management |

Not to answer for ocho, but the editing was essentially the entirety of that film. That was an Editor’s wet dream. Gorgeous imagery to play with and performances to match. It’s a film that perfectly illustrates how editing truly tells the story. There are sequences several minutes long where there’s no dialogue, only imagery and pacing. And I would love to have the opportunity to cut so much amazing footage. It’s also important to note how important the sound work was on that film. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Open Range is great stuff. And I really enjoyed Apaloosa as well, though I’m a huge Ed Harris fan and I’ve been reading Robert Parker novels since I was a late teen. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

That was gorgeous! And there were some stunning montages with one-point perspectives wipes and jumps _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I may have been a little too excited after watching it last night (a couple old fasioneds certainly helped), so I'll say it's one of the best westerns I've seen since Unforgiven. The Assassination of Jesse James is better (and a masterpiece), but I can't think of any others I've seen over the last 25 years that have been better unless one wants to call No Country for Old Men a western. _________________ Under New Management

It's on Amazon Prime. I'm getting excited to re-watch it soon. And I realized I've never seen Morvern Callar, now also on Prime. _________________ Under New Management |

Moscow Mules have certainly influenced some of my decision making in the past.
Old Country is not really a Western, though an argument could be made that it and Hell or High Water are certainly Western adjacent. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Gotta get around to seeing this one. The cast looks promising and I'm a big fan of westerns. I don't catch a lot of contemporary westerns, but of the few I've watched, I really liked 310 to Yuma and the True Grit remake. |

Watched Roma last night. Visually it was excellent, although I thought in some instances that color would have made the scenes stand out more or add to the 70's era. Overall a touching story. |

Tbh, I can't assess earlier versions cuz I haven't seen any flicks prior to the Streisand flick. But I was curious about how we assess filmic cultural heritage passed down through the ages. _________________ Under New Management |
