I'm sorry Mr. President. We can't launch. Windows no longer supports the driver for our floppy drive.
I have some CD-RWs I'd be happy to donate to the U.S. Government. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Obsolescence is a hell of a thing in the military and especially with aging platforms. Have the time we're running out of companies and personnel who actually know how to make the damn components to still important systems. |

Hello, Professor Falken... |
Shall we play a game...How about a nice game of chess?
Those huge disks made the 5.25 disks look like sd disks.
The whole setup David had at home in the movie is a flashback.

In elementary school one of the computers in the lab had a really outdated computer that accepted huge floppy drives. I liked playing Oregon Trail on it. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

That was a 5.25 floppy....I don't think I've ever seen a 8 inch floppy in consumer use. |

Plus you don't even need a piece of tape to cover the notch on the side to make them rewritable! |

I think that the old school tech is the way to go, just like in Battelstar Galactica, no networked computers, therefore no way to hack into them. Bring back the floppys! _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

Everything with government just seems so damn old. I toured the water treatment plant at a prison a few years back, and man the technology was early 1950. All the water valves were hand-wheels . And they dripped chlorine into the effluent stream via a half-open vault lid cover.
My son works tech. in the local Looney bin, and they have doctors still using Word Perfect, and old programs from the 1990's. Some of them didn't want to give up their old dot-matrix printers, and strongly resisted going to LAN-like printer systems. God forbid they would have to walk out of their cubicle to get a printed document! _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

The looney bin is what they called it back in the 1950s, too. I heard that tale about dot-matrix not sufficing for legal documents. You'd think the looney bin would be using modern printers for anything that could be used as documentation in court later on, but I just take the pills they give me, I don't run the jernt. I do know that every place I've ever worked had a Xerox machine that was so old that it was beige-yellow from aging/Sun bleaching. You could tell they were in use when Cosby was selling Pudding Pops. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL
