I'm not a big gamer, but I try to play video games on my computer at least a couple hours a week. I only play old games from the 80s and 90s since I'm not into video games as much as other people in my age group, but those retro games are really enjoyable for me. I was wondering what are some of the favorite retro video games that our fellow LGers either loved playing back in the day, or still play today.
My favorite one right now is Boulder Dash. It's not as well known as others, but I remember playing it when I was 6 or 7 on my hand-me-down C64, and recently I found a Windows version of it that is just about identical to the original with many thousands of levels. This game spun off a bunch of level editors, expansions and stuff, and it is a really addictive game for me. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers

I never stopped being into 8 & 16-bit games. Their replay value has proven infinite, and far exceeds most AAA releases in the last 18 years. What really stands out to me is the brilliant music in most of those old games. Composers did not (bleep) around. As for the NES specifically, I find many of the arcade ports to be aesthetically superior to the original ROMs.
NES
Blaster Master
Trojan
Spy Hunter
Zelda 1 & 2
Super Mario Bros 2 & 3
Kung Fu
Kung Fu Heroes
M.U.S.C.L.E
Ice Hockey
Contra & Super C
Ikari Warriors
Super Spike V-Ball
Double Dragon
Double Dribble
Dragon Warrior
Duck Hunt
Castlevania II
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
SNES
Mega Man X, X2, X3
Robocop vs. Terminator
Zombies ate my neighbors
Pilotwings
Super Mario World
StarFox
Maximum Carnage
Super Star Wars / Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi
WWF Monday Night Raw
Madden 94, 95
NBA Live 96
SimCity
F-Zero
Super Mario Kart
Contra III
Super Double Dragon
Donkey Kong Country
The Lion King
Aladdin
Super Ghouls N Ghosts
Super Baseball 2020
ActRaiser
Populous
Demon's Crest
Hook
The Lost Vikings
DOS/Windows PC
Maddog McCree
Tie Fighter - greatest video game ever made IMO
Rebel Assault
Monkey Island I-IV
Wolfenstein 3D
Alone in the Dark
Out of this World
The Adventures of Willy Beamish
Space Quest IV _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

Still fond of the early 80s gms, Ms. Pac Man, Centipede, Berzerk, Dig Dug, Q*bert, Frogger, Galaga. Tempest had great sound effects and visuals for an Asteroids stick graphics game, but I never learned how the F to play that one. Rampage was a good one. Burger Time. Paperboy.

What? No love for the arcade game Tron?
The light cycles were always the most fun for me.
I remember as a kid all the quarters I was given on that game from my dad were gone in just a little while.
Yes, I loved the movie too at the time and now still.

I played the living bejeezus out of Doom 1 and 2 for pc. You could go online and just download hundreds of custom made maps (called wads). There were even porn wads. Gaming was so awesome back then. Nowadays you pay 20 bucks for a chance to get a skin you like.
I also loved Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Last of the great FPS games before Call of Dookie ruined everything. _________________ Lakers. Built different.

I'm an older millennial. I'm self employed, so I often stay up late and get most of my work done in the evening or late at night. I remember playing some of the games mentioned in this thread when I was really little. Doom 1 and 2 is also at the top of my list. I think games like that where you can make custom levels and mods and stuff have much more replay value than others.
Another one I'll mention is Raiden DX. I fell in love with this game when i was little, and it's kinda disappointing that there haven't been many PC versions of vertical shoot em ups like the Raiden series. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
