The answer is no.

Why, because the team isnít ready for his short term plans. Two, because paying 13.3% of his $80 million income to the state of California without the benefit of a Federal deduction will cost him $10 million a year. The price for living in our progressive utopia isnít worth that.
Youíll see this more and more in all sports. With a short window to earn a lot of money, why throw away millions for a bit of sunshine.

I suspect athletes in CA do pay more, but the actual calculation is more complex, because their taxes are affected by where they live in the offseason, as well as having to pay taxes to other states for away games.

And the reality is lots of rich people do choose to live in CA because of the sunshine, so I don't know that your generalization about the cost/benefit of the tax vs. the environment holds for everyone. How big a factor that would be for George, or any other free agent, is anyone's guess.

Anyone with a vauge familiarity of the California Franchise Tax Board knows that they are ferocious in their application and administration of the stateís tax laws.

If an indivual works for an employer within the state for 8 months of the year he would be consider by the FTB a resident of the the state. The burden of proof is on the taxpayer to prove otherwise and it would be a difficult case to make. All earnings from his California employer would be subject to the rate of 13.3% regardless. Any taxes paid to other states can offset taxes paid to the state, but the overall rate would remain the same. Income earned from sources outside the state would only be exempt if he were able to establish that although he resided in the state for more than half the year, he wasnít a resident. However, first you must give them the money, then you can try to get it back. Good luck with that.

Prior to the recent tax legislation, all state taxes were deductible against your Federal taxes, now virtually none are. So much for Republicans giving tax breaks to the rich. Millionaires are going to pay through the nose in high tax states like ours.
Oh well, the weathers nice.

I was thinking about that. I find the article a solid Kuzma article, but the headline just sets it up for people to dislike it and throw stones at it. Total click-bait headline.

That's a big problem in journalism these days, beyond sports columns. Really does a disservice to society.

Does He Attract LeBron?
What a vile and gross thought! James is an arse.

I want to grow to love our current team with some younger FA tweaks. A real team, not a shortĖterm Frankenstein.
