Hey all,

I asked for suggestions for Chicago in the past and got some good feedback so I figured I'd ask again.

My girlfriend has a work trip coming up and I'm gonna meet her there. Gonna get there saturday morning and leave on tuesday.

Any recommendations from anyone who has been?

Food, bars, attractions, history, anything.

I'm already aware of the tourist stuff so anything not already on those "must-do" lists preferred.

Thanks in advance!

Aside from beignets, poboys and pretty any other food, I'd say check out http://drinkandlearn.com/

I did this when I went and let was fun to walk around the city drinking and being told the history of neighborhoods/buildings as your walked through them. I think it was pretty short too, like 90 minutes. It was a solid way to pre-game before hitting the bars that night. 10/10 recommend.

I havent been but if I was my to-do list would definitely include a mission to eat the best Shrimp and Grits nola has to offer

I'd would also like to visit a historical slave plantation with a tour that focuses more on the slave perspective

Can't really go wrong with most places for some good gumbo. I happened to like Dooky Chase's.

Swamp tour on a fan boat was fun for a city guy like me. Never been that close to a gator or ever want to.

Be sure to eat some crawfish pie. And hang onto your wallet, crime is rampant.

Not worried about crime.

Crawfish pie?!? Never heard of it. I take it it's something similar to chicken pot pie?

Great Food Experiences:

1) Vessel - It's literally a church they converted into a Bar/Restaurant. Great food and unique atmosphere.

2) Maypop - Great Eats in the warehouse district.

3) Commanders Palace - Can't go wrong with 25 cent Martininis! lol

4) Fradys (It's a local grocery market that serves some of the best Po-Boys and local food in the city. Nothing Fancy, but everybody in town knows to go there to grab quick real local eats)

5) Best BBQ Shrimp in town is at Pascals

6) The Oysters Rockefeller @ Antoines is worth the hype!
