Wizards/Jazz and Spurs just a half game back of the Cavs now.
Love to see 8 teams from the west have better records than the Cavs, and 5 from the east, that would be a 17th pick ....... It's not that much of a stretch at this point, something I would never have imagined earlier this season...

NO, what did they do?
Chriss missed a dunk and fell down, and as the Jazz went back up the court with the ball, Dudley took a cheap, hard foul on Rubio. Then when Rubio's teammates naturally were not happy with that, Chriss goes over to Rubio and blindsides him with a hit. (Not a punch, just more running contact that you'd never expect to get from the blindside.) Both Suns were ejected.

Looking at Cleveland's, New Orleans, Denver's, San Antonio's, Washington, Clippers, Philadelphia's and Utah's schedules, here's how I see it:
Philadelphia: 49-33
Washington: 49-33
New Orleans: 48-34 (tie over Cleveland)
Cleveland: 48-34
Utah: 47-35
San Antonio: 45-37
------------------------------
Denver: 43-39
Clippers: 42-40
I think we end up with the 19th pick with Cleveland finishing with 12th best record in the league, compared to our 12th pick (given to Philly). Not bad. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Do you know who has the tie breakers between the Cavs and Philly/Washington?

^It depends on how they finish out the remainder of their schedule. There are too many scenarios to post. Won't really be clear until the last few games. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

That pick likely never plays on the Lakers.
Youhave to start to wonder if we try to trade Deng before the draft if the pick falls in the teens. It would almost be more valuable than 2 future 1st round picks.

I tend to agree... but the better the pick we get from Cleveland, the less we have to give up otherwise to trade Deng. Whether we use it or not, the 19th pick is definitely a perk. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Yeah, this is what I think, too. If we do what I want us to do (see my sig), we can't keep the CLE pick due to the cap hold anyway. It has to go out in any Deng trade. But the better the pick is, like LS says, it makes it more likely that we don't have to add other sweeteners to the deal. If the pick ends up in the teens, maybe we'll have to add another future 1st, but at that point I don't think we'd have to add another 2nd rounder, even. Maybe the $5.2MM cash, but I'm sure the Lakers are more than OK with that, if it came to it.

If the Cavs pick ends up in the teens, then we may have a real shot at unloading Deng....obviously other things would need to be added, but if we could move Deng for this years pick and a future pick, like 2020 that would be pretty awesome, definitely opens things up for the Lakers

Funny how this is being played in the media. The Suns are getting all the negative attention and Utah players seem to be getting a pass.
Utah prides itself for having a toughness or edge. They have for decades. It is in their culture to get under the skin of opponents. Yet this is getting reported as Rubio and Jazz were innocently going about their business when the Sun's players lost their minds. I did not watch the game but i would be willing to bet there was some Utah instigation throughout the game.
Even on the clip. Chriss was undercut and landed hard. No foul? He didn't simply miss the dunk as is being reported. Then Rubio steps over him. Small detail but tends to draw player reactions all season long when someone does it.
Also found it interesting that in the aftermath Mitchell runs the length of the court to actively get into the shoving match and instigate and only gets a tech?
Maybe it is my anti- Jazz bias but I have no sympathy for them in this. No doubt Suns lost their cool. But I am going out on a limb and believe that Utah was far from the Angels the media is portraying.

We may be in a position where we will not do anything with Deng. After next season, Deng's contract becomes an ending contract. This could be helpful making a trade after next year. If we get a pick in the teens, that would be sweet. The way we have been drafting, I would not be against keeping the pick. Lets not forget we will not draft this high again for the next decade!
