Jamal Crawford calls Isaiah Thomas’ slide from MVP candidate to Lakers’ bench ‘crazy

Quote:
the Minnesota guard in his 18th NBA season, has gotten daily updates as Thomas has endured one of the strangest slides in NBA history.

“If you would have had me say what happens next from last year,” Crawford said, “this would have never entered my mind in the equation. Ever. Like, ‘Oh, he’ll be in Boston,’ and that’ll be that. I never would have seen any of this coming.”

I doubt that NBA FAs and agents are that naive. I am pretty sure they wouldn’t chalk our season up to IT.

Give IT some time. He just came off a major injury and just got here. However, it’s really sad to see the drop off especially in his contract year.

It's going to be a long road for him to come back from that surgery. Your hips are a major part of lower body explosiveness. He won't be anywhere near his form from last year until next season at the earliest, and he may never get back to where he was.

I feel bad for how Danny-boy shanked him after IT played all-out for them last year and for how terrible the timing of his injury was going into a contract year.

But his attitude in Cleveland was terrible, and the initial BS from his agent about IT not coming off the bench in LA was a huge red flag.

He needs to put up numbers for his next contract, while the Lakers are trying to create a "play great D and share-the-ball on offense" culture. Those two things are in direct conflict with each other.

Better to cut him and let him get minutes somewhere else than have his attitude issues infect the locker room. I'd literally rather see Caruso get those minutes, as he plays the way Luke wants on both ends of the court.

Apparently that seems to be the case.

I disagree, it is a long term pain because we won't get 2 Max Free agents (or if we do it won't be guys worth that kind of money) and we will have to see another year of throwing a bunch of guys together and win 20-30 games. I am not saying we were playoff bound with the team we had this year because rookies always hit a wall, but we would have a year to see where Ball, Hart, Kuz, Balding Accountant BB player, and Thomas would fit into this offense. Add in the extra year to improve Randal, Brandon, JC and Nance and this team looks pretty playoff bound next year.

Instead we assume we are going to hit a home run in free agency and land to Max All Stars. We are just pushing another crappy season down the Fans throats and saying the next year will be even better. And then you get a couple Superstars and they take a year to work well together and if you don't make the playoffs in year 2 then you are talking about Year 3 when this team finally gets its ass in gear.

Or we could be in the playoffs next year and with a team that had talent, youth and the fire to win.

This Laker Organization has not yet hit bottom. It is moving there quickly, and I suspect this year we will see zero talent coming to the Lakers and we will trade away Kuz and BI for old vets in the hopes of giving LeBronze some scapegoats.

Isaiah Thomas talks being in the gym getting his rhythm back; telling Lonzo there's "no days off."

At the right price, he would help. Its a great year to have cap room as there is less competition. The cap is going down and there will not be crazy money thrown around. I am more excited about signing bargain contracts for our bench. We are in a great position going forward with a ton of options. Not signing a max player is not the end of the world for us.

IT's makes it look effortless. His shot is 1 smooth motion. Lonzo looks rusty. I can predict his shot outcome pretty well based on his balance.

It might be good to have Lonzo play/practice next to IT like that. Maybe the shooting touch will rub off a bit.

More like it can show Lonzo what good mechanics can do.

Someone in the comment section said : Lonzo shot around 45.6% (42/92) IT shot 71.7% (66/92)...
I assume 45% in practice is a terrible number...

he is still trying to do too much out there, but not a terrible game for him. I think this is the type of production one should expect from him through the rest of the season; perhaps, for the rest of his career

I liked what I saw from him this game.

If he truly embraced being the 6th man pretty much every fan base wants him to be, he would be a great keeper.

Really liked how he played tonight. Seemed to get a majority of his points within the flow of the offense and he made a couple of good reads on the wing to Kuz and on the roll to Zu

How good is it to finally have someone who is automatic at the line.

If we can get IT on the cheap this offseason we HAVE to do it. With his confidence and health back he is a star, and stars on a cheap contract is how you build championship teams. It would be a risk but one worth taking.

IT isn't going to sign for cheap and he shouldn't. Dude has a huge ego/chip on his shoulder plus he has never been paid. Best for both parties that he moves on and gets the the money he deserves elsewhere.

Isaiah Thomas on Robert Horry: "I grew up a Laker fan & he's hit so many big shots in his career. Even when I was in the back on the bike & he was coming out, that was my first time ever meeting him. It was a dope experience to be able to meet somebody that I've always watched."

Seeing how much Lou got playing nearly all star level this season, I would be surprised if IT gets more than 6-7 ME per year.
