God Bless You Kobe Bryant

Question for you all: Which players in the modern NBA could handle the pressure and expectations of playing for the Lakers?

I wish more players this generation were more like Kobe. Too many guys want the easiest path to winning.

I can see Kyrie interested in us if things don't go well in Boston. He can opt out in 2019 I believe.

Giannis seems to responding well to Kobe and Magic's comments . Let's see if that tampering charge will pay off.

Number of teams in NBA history with one star that won an NBA Final? I think since the 70s at least that list is about 2 deep, with Rick Barry Warriors and Hakeem's first championship. Maybe I'm missing a couple. But guys simply want a path to winning. That usually takes 2-3 stars, and lets stop with the nonsense that this is a recent phenomena when Magic himself came to a team with one of the greatest players in the league and former MVP, a couple other all-stars, and, would eventually have a former MVP and scoring champ coming off the bench as 6th man.

Secondly, what team ever has an easy path to winning? Tell any of the Warriors even post-Durant that they're having an easy time of it when they're playing in June. Go ahead. Especially Draymond, he really enjoys people discounting the work he puts in....

And lets not pretend like anyone coming to LA as a free agent is doing so because they have help here. The Lebrons and Paul George's of the world aren't coming here because they want to struggle to win 30 games. They'd be coming because they believe with the pieces on the team they would be able to make the team competitive in the playoffs. No one is coming here to toil like Kobe pre-Pau era and score tons of points and lose while playing heroically. And we shouldn't begrudge any guy who has put in the time in the league not winning for putting himself in a position to have a fighting chance.

He's right. That's why I don't know if PG is man enough to play here.

So true. It's why I agreed with Jeannie when she said that if you don't want to come play with Kobe then you don't want to win and we don't want you here.

I think it comes down to mental toughness. I think these guys could handle it.

CP3
Westbrook
Steph
Dame
KD
Boogie
Giannis (maybe)
Kyrie
IT
Butler

Gotta love Kobe.

But I can recall a time in 2004 when many left his side. Chose to ride with Shaq for a short time.

Then many came back, a few years later.
I never once doubted Kobe Bryant.

I wonder if he's retooled his sales pitch since the last time he sat in a recruitment meeting.

Funny thing is...he says he does not need to recruit - but that is basically what he just did, and he knows it. He just called out Lebron and issued a challenge.

i don't think it's exceptionalism so much as it is acknowledgment that the pressure of being a star on the lakers is so much greater than being a star elsewhere, but that succeeding as a star on the lakers makes your star shine so much brighter than anywhere else. that's not exceptionalism, it's just a fact. if someone doesn't already understand those things, then they're probably not going to succeed here.

Love Kobe, but even he needed some convincing to continue playing for the Lakers. This sentiment, which I appreciate from a fanboy aspect and as someone who prefers the mythos and story of sports and fandom, only makes sense if everything basketball-wise is in place and the target is still like "yeah, but why you." And I just don't buy that.
