Staples East… The Lakers traveled from Staples North to Staples East as Laker fans were out in force again to see the team on their only visit to Atlanta.

They did not disappoint as nine Lakers scored in double digits. That was the first time we’ve done that since 1987.

The Lakers had an 18-point lead at halftime despite 14 turnovers. They made 10-18 from three, while the Hawks went just 3-17 from distance in the half. The Hawks made an 11-0 run in the third quarter, but Brandon Ingram imposed his will on both ends for multiple scores to put it back out of reach. They coasted to the 123-104 blowout win.

They’ve matched their win total from last year with their 26th win of the season. Keep stringing those wins together.

Randle -- -- He’s just overpowering guys every game in the paint. Consistently beasting. He had 14 points on 6-8 shooting and 6 boards in the first half. He’s scoring everything around the rim. His minutes were short in the second half with the blowout. Power layups and dunks. He works with speed, too, which allows him to dish out some of that physicality under the hoop. Defensively, he had some excellent challenges in this game. Love seeing him anchor like that. It’s in him, but maybe the one part of this defensive improvement that hasn’t been consistent this year. Another double-double. The Stats: He scored 19 points on 8-13 shooting (3-3 from the line) to go with 10 boards (4 offensive), 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 3 turnovers and 2 foul in 30 minutes. He was a +15. The Action: He deflected a pass on one end, hustled down court, took the pass and reversed for the Lakers first score. Way off the mark on the lob pass to Ingram, turnover. He took the post entry, spun baseline and dunked. He attacked, spun and was blocked from behind. He took a pass in transition next time down and powered in the layup. He was fouled on the offensive glass. He was called for a travel on a pass fake. He scored a layup on the screen-roll with Isaiah. He drew FTs on a putback attempt in transition, he made both. He choked a layup off the drive and dish from Kuzma. He cut baseline and took a pass for a layup next time down. Nice challenge at the rim on help D on three straight drives. He spun baseline and hit the jumphook. Second Half: He fired a pass cross-court to KCP for three. He attacked, spun and got tapped on the layup. He missed a flat jumphook. He spun in the post and scored the layup. He was picked in the backcourt for a score. He scored an And-1 off the interior feed from Lonzo, he made the FT.

Ingram -- -- Love this game from BI. Great stretch midway through the third quarter when he imposed his will on the oppoent. He got to the rim for multiple straight scores, including an And-1 layup off a steal and an And-1 dunk. “He put the team on his back,” Lonzo said of that stretch. Luke: “Brandon put us on his shoulders.” We don’t hear that frequently when talking about Ingram. I mean that in the sense that he just took over with 15 points in that quarter, dominating. This was different than his usual strong effort. The announcing crew said he was ticked. I’m not sure that was true, but he certainly played like it. This is really the first game this season that reminded me of how he played in his summer league game. It was the attitude beneath it all. If he missed a shot, he went after the miss to get it back. If the team was sputtering, he said let’s pick it up and led by example. He wanted to dominate the game on both ends. Anytime guys tried attacking him on D, he was not only up for the fight but got the better of them. Felt like a true leader out there tonight. That’s the guy we want. Look at these numbers. The Stats: He scored 21 points on 10-16 shooting (0-1 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 10 boards, 6 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 3 turnovers and no fouls in 29 minutes. He was a +19. The Action: Bazemore tried to attack and overwhelm Ingram on the tipoff and BI rejected him. He attacked the paint, missed but follow tipped it back in. He set up Brook for the three. He crossed over, missed the jumper, swiped the ball back and scored the layup. He kicked to Kuzma for the three. He pushed it out with speed and missed a layup. Nice D staying in front of his man laterally, then challenging well at the rim to get a stop. He tried to thread a pass to Zubac on the break, turnover as it was easily picked off. He fumbled away a sure layup off the feed by Kuzma. He kicked to Lonzo for the open three. He denied a layup coming from the weakside to block the shot. He stripped a man on help D to deny a layup. He missed a wing three on a kickout. He swished a wing jumper working off the high double screen. Second Half: He got middle and scored an easy layup to start the half. He got his man on his hip and hit the 14-footer (just too small to challenge that shot). He was “blocked” on a dunk attempt (fouled badly with no call). He missed a long fade trying to beat the shotclock, no choice on that one. He sank a long pull-up wing jumper. He attacked the paint hard and scored a layup. He changed directions, attacked left, stretched out and scored a layup next time down. He jumped a passing lane, tracked down the loose ball and took it the distance for the And-1 layup, he missed the FT. He ducked in off a baseline cut, took the pass from the corner, turned and threw down an And-1 dunk, he made the FT.

Lopez -- -- The three ball was dropping early as he did a much better job staying on balance on his shot. He had 11 points on 3-5 from behind the arc in the first half. He’d miss a couple attempts in the second half and his minutes were limited with the blowout. Some nice challenges on D. Rebounding wise, he had a lot of help tonight, but did also tap some to teammates that probably didn’t count as a board. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 4-8 shooting (3-6 from three) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 22 minutes. He was a +11. The Action: He drained a three on the pick and pop with BI. Awful pass trying to hit a cutter that wasn’t there, turnover. He rejected a drive. He didn’t recover back to his man when he had time and we gave up a layup. He missed a wing three. Nice extra feed to Julius under the hoop for a score. He hit a three straight away trailing the break. He missed next time down on the heat check from about the same spot. He worked the post and powered in the short one. Illegal handoff, turnover. He gave up a three on one end, then hit a three on the other. Nice challenge at the rim to get a stop. Second Half: He missed an open 17-footer. He missed a wing three after setting a good screen. He was fouled at the rim for FTs, he made both.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- Career high in rebounding tonight. “My shot wasn’t falling tonight, so I had to do something different. Rebound the ball. Play defense,” KCP said. He did have a few defensive breakdowns, but he was hitting the glass hard. His first couple shots didn’t look good. The second one was an airball from the elbow. (He would airball another three in the second half.) So he channeled his energy elsewhere to help the team. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 4-12 shooting (2-5 from three) to go with 14 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 turnovers and 2 foul sin 32 minutes. He was a +8. The Action: His post entry pass was picked off for a dunk the other way. He missed a wing three way short. He swiped a kickout on the weakside. He airballed an elbow jumper. He pushed out with speed and hit Randle for the layup. He hit a short runner off the handoff. Poor D letting his man drive right by him for a layup. He fumbled away a pass in the paint. He missed a wide open three. He threw an outlet away. Second Half: He sank a wing three on a kickout. He airballed an open three next time. He missed a pull-up 16-footer. He couldn’t finish a nice lob from Lonzo. He attacked off the three line and scored the lefty layup. He swished a wing three.

Hart -- -- KCP wasn’t going to let him dominate the glass and take his money. Love that we’ve got guards hitting the glass. Good scoring game from Hart. He drained three threes and also had a sweet And-1 finish, getting knocked on his back in the process. He took what the D was giving him tonight. If they went under screens, he made them pay. If they tried to pressure him, he attacked the rim for scores. No hesitation on any of that. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 5-9 shooting (3-6 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 1 turnover and 4 fouls in 27 minutes. He was a +1. The Action: He attacked off the three line and charged. The D went under the screen so he hit the three. He attacked off the three line and scooped in the And-1 lefty layup before going down, he made the FT. Second Half: He missed a wing three. He attacked the pressure D, got into the paint and scored the And-1 layup, he missed the FT. He let his man cross him over for a layup, could see that one coming. He missed a corner three. He drained a three on a kickout from Lonzo. He missed a wing three. The D went under so he drained a three. He missed a floater in the paint.

Ball -- -- He didn’t miss a shot tonight. He sank a couple of threes and scored a layup for 8 points on 3-3 shooting the first half, playing 12 minutes. He’d get the same amount of run in the second half and the stats piled up. He’s looking extremely comfortable out there. When the shot is dropping, there’s no hesitation on anything. Defensively, he got better as the game went along. He was making some nice reads for steals and looked very explosive. “I got blown by twice and after that I was cool. Once it got warmed up it was good,” Lonzo said of the knee. I imagine, we keep him and IT coming off the bench for the moment with how the team has been winning out of the break. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 4-4 shooting (3-3 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 7 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls in 24 minutes. He was a +18. The Action: He let his man blow by him for FTs. Good defensive rotation to swipe a pass, but he threw it away on the other end. He picked up his second foul challenging a three pointer. He hit Zubac on the break for FTs. Great entry pass to Zubac who sealed his man for a layup. He swished a sideline three off the kickout. He lost the handle trying to attack the paint, turnover. He drained a wing three trailing the break. He hit Lopez trailing the break for a three. He pushed out the break and scored a layup. Second Half: He swished a wing three off a swing pass. Nice extra pass in the interior to Randle for the And-1. He blindsided a man to slap a ball loose, push out and draw FTs, he made both. He kicked out to Hart for the three.

Thomas -- -- “We got to want to be great,” Isaiah said, mentioning if we have a 20 point lead, we need to push it to 30. I like the attitude and I hope he’s preaching it to the guys. This was his best game as far as finishing in the paint. He was able to exploit mismatches for scores. He had a rainbow scoop shot on one finish that looked like it might be a lob pass, but that was one of those shots that a smaller player learns how to get off before the D can close. “I get in the paint, I’m probably not throwing no alley-oop,” IT said. If he can combine this type of finishing in the paint with deadly three shooting, that’s the game that we saw from him last year with consistency. Defensively, no issues tonight. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 4-10 shooting (1-5 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 5 assists, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 27 minutes. He was a +13. The Action: He brought the ball up and missed a deep three. He missed an easy floater in the paint he should have had. He got middle and bounced to Julius for the layup. He missed a pull-up three in transition. He attacked and hit Randle for the layup. He swished a corner three in transition. Caught in the lane after picking up his dribble, he panicked and threw it away blindly over his head. He kicked out to Kuzma for a three. He iso’d at the end of the half and was fouled (went a little early), he made both FTs. Second Half: He missed a leaner from the elbow. He attacked, spun and was fouled on the layup attempt, he made both FTs. He flipped in a high scoop high over the D. Short on a wing three. He threaded a pass to Zubac for a dunk. He crossed over a big, attacked and scored a layup. He kicked to Zubac for the jumper. He missed a three, followed it up to grab the board and score the layup.

Kuzma -- -- He had 10 points in the first half on 3-4 shooting. Then went 0-6 in the second half. Some poor shot selection in there. He looked good early, though. Need to see him bring the complete game and we’ll have some more blowout wins. He was active on the glass. Could have done better on some of his challenges. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 3-10 shooting (3-7 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 9 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 28 minutes. He was a +10. The Action: He grabbed a missed FT, pushed it out with speed and drew FTs himself on the layup attempt, he made one. He swished a wing three on a kickout. Julius blew a layup on Kuzma’s nice drive and dish. He swished a corner three. He missed a wing three in early offense. He swished a quick-fire wing three on the kickout. He stepped on the sideline pushing off, turnover. Great feed to BI who took his eyes off the ball and fumbled away a sure layup. He hit Ball for a wing three trailing the break. Second Half: He missed a wing three. His bounce pass was picked off. Nice challenge on D on the other end to get a stop. He missed a wing three. He missed a baseline jumper. He went behind his back and missed the pull-up, not on balance. He swiped a ball, pushed it out and missed a three. He attacked and wasn’t close on the finish.

Zubac -- -- A quiet 10 points from Zubac. He’s a big target for the guards on offense and tries to cover for them on D. A little foul prone tonight trying to do that. Need to see more of that Zublocka back there from him. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 4-6 shooting (2-4 from the line) to go with 1 board, 3 turnovers and 5 fouls in 17 minutes. He was a +0. The Action: He drew FTs in transition when Lonzo hit him, he missed both. He missed a floater in the paint. He sealed his man well under the hoop and Lonzo hit him for the layup. Second Half: He couldn’t finish off a short one off a poor lob. He tipped in a miss next time down. He dunked off the great feed from IT through the D. Too hot on a pass to Hart on the perimeter, turnover. He hit a baseline jumper on a kickout. Three seconds in the paint, turnover.

Ennis -- -- Just 5 minutes and 3 turnovers in garbage time. Oiy. Props for taking a charge, though. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-2 shooting to go with 1 board, 2 assists and 3 turnovers in 5 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He attacked and hit a running hook off glass. He threw a pass away. He missed a 17-footer off the two-man game. He drew a charge to get it back on the other end. He stepped on the baseline on the other end to give it back again. Bad post entry to Zubac rolling, turnover. He hit KCP for a three.

Walton -- -- The Lakers led 11-5 when the first timeout came… Up just 1, he brought in IT for Hart, who picked up his second foul… Up 1, Ball and Kuzma in for Lopez and KCP… Too many turnovers… KCP back in for Ingram, Lakers up 3… The Lakers led 28-22 after the first despite 7 turnovers… He started the Zubac, Kuzma, Hart, Ball, IT lineup… Ingram in for Ball after 3 minutes, Lakers up 9… Lopez in for Zubac up 8… Randle in up 12 for Kuzma… Up 15 when the timeout came… Lonzo out for IT up 15 still… The Lakers led 64-46 at the half. The Lakers had 19 assists, but 14 turnovers. The Hawks shot 29% to the Lakers 59%... They quickly pushed the lead to 25… That was trimmed back to 14 on an 11-0 run when Luke called a timeout… Ingram pushed the lead back to 18 by himself. Just dominating. Out of that timeout, Luke went with Randle, Kuzma, Ingram, Ball and IT… Ingram out and KCP in up 25… The Lakers led 96-75 heading into the fourth… He started the Zubac, Kuzma, KCP, Ball, IT lineup… Hart in for KCP up 22 shortly later… Lonzo out for Ennis, IT out for KCP. Garbage time… “They kind of came out in that second half and started being the aggressors,” Luke said…

Thanks DB! Great to see the Lakers blow a team out for once! Nine players in double figures speaks volumes about how this team is distributing the ball right now. Great to see Lonzo feeling good after 24 minutes of action too. His season shooting percentages took a pretty good sized hop today.

How many more tankers are the Lakers going to meet? There are supposedly eight teams racing to the bottom.

PHX, SAC, ATL, ORL, MEM, CHI, DAL, NYK. The Nets have no reason to tank; they are just bad.

I would expect wins against these teams. Only four more games.

As to picks, most likely Philly will get the Lakers' pick at around #10, and BOS will get SAC's 2019 pick which will be very good.

Thanks, DB!

It will be interesting to see how we perform against the upper third of the league the rest of the season. I don't think we're going to beast on everyone. But, if I'm a playoff team fighting for position down the stretch, LAL is a team I'd prefer not to tangle with right now. Looking at the schedule, I'm expecting them to win right around 50% of the remaining games to finish at 37 or 38 wins.

BI and Randle have both been playing some of their best ball ever lately. If Randle keeps this up the rest of the year, he's getting at least 18 million per from someone. Tough decisions ahead.

Like that you reminded us about the BI summer League game you were right on in that reference.

Thanks DB. Other than the first half turnovers and pockets of really sloppy play, good effort. They will need to recalibrate their focus and mindset because playoff teams are coming up now.

The shooting has been pretty good lately. Who are these guys?!
