We still look bad and Kidd takes over.

Our next 5 games: suns, nuggets, grizz, Boston, pels

If losing record I think there will be a coaching change.

Agree...we are pretty sh**y right now. On pace for 50+ wins. Definitely Vogel has his days numbered.

Duh!

Vogel is guaranteed to finish the season based on the record alone.

Firing him and letting kidd take over at this juncture? No one would take Jeanie, Kurt and Rob seriously ever again.

well getting rondo off of the playing court would certainly improve things

To have a losing record, we literally have to lose every one of the remaining 29 games this season.

So, yeah, if we lose 29 in a row, I wouldn't be surprised to see a coaching change.

We're 6-5 in our last 11 and continue to look poor when LeBron's not in the game.. that's coaching. Especially when we started 24-3

Even if they somehow lose the next 5 in a row (which they won't), they'd be 39-17, which is a 69% winning rate, which translates to 57 wins in the season.

The Lakers haven't had 57 wins since a decade ago. It is worth noting that at that winning percentage the Lakers have made the finals 8 times since 1980 with a record between 56 and 58 wins.

It is also worth noting that that record would still leave them in basically a tie for first with the Clippers and Nuggets.

So, even if the Lakers had a catastrophic run of losses over the next 5 games, they would still be doing better than they have at any point in the last decade, still be in the fight for 1st in the West and still a championship contender--that is how good they have been this season, flaws and all. They can afford to lose like that and still stay on top.

But again, it is exceedingly unlikely that they drop 5 in a row right now. And that means there is almost no chance that Vogel is fired this season. And that means your post is based in a world of alternative "facts" and you probably shouldn't have even bothered with this level of nonsense.

I meant losing record out of the next 5 games

Clarification. Losing record from the next 5, Pelinka will be having to answer questions.

Sorry folks. I was thinking it coulda been misinterpreted, before the original post. But I figured most would understand when I prefaced with the next five, that I was talking about the 5 game stretch.

Let me rephrase one more time.

If we go 2-3 or worse in our next five. There will be some finger pointing and Vogel will be in hot seat. By standing pat at deadline. Pelinka and Jeanie like this team. So consecutive poor performances, will not be good for the coach.

Frankly I think we have a good roster. But LeBron at the PG; AD and Bron playing all those minutes, McGee over Dwight, not playing some of the rooks is not a good.

Kidd at least would try and tinker. Vogel will stick to the same script over and over.

It's been a tough going for the Lakers lately with the Loss of Lakers Legend KB24 his daughter Gianna and the other lives that were loss in the horrific helicopter Crash.

That hit the whole entire league, but the Lakers players more than anyone.

In the wake of that incident the Lakers had to try to navigate the Trade Deadline and unfortunately came up short. I don't believe giving Kuzma away was the answer TBH. Kuzma is experiencing growing pains in this League, but he's proved he can play and compete at a high level.

I'm not giving any excuses, but the tale is in the tape...

Collison is staying retired and won't be back to the NBA, at least that's what's being said now, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Clippers uniform before it's all said and done.

There are still players out there that could help the Lakers get to where they need to be by seasons end.

JR Smith/Kenneth Faried/Jamal Crawford to name a few and if you want to pull someone out of retirement, how about DWade for starters.

It ain't over, the Lakers are reaching the half way mark and feeling it and need a break from everything that's happened. They'll come back and be in full stride!

Don't be surprised if...this thread gets locked?

Lakers will almost certainly finish top 3 in the west just based on running their 2 stars into the ground against the crappy teams. That is actually a good outcome compared to last few years coaching wise..

The measure of a potential coaching change would be if they get bounced in the first or second round. And, I think that might be a likely scenario based on the poor half court offensive efficiency. Even so, its still a stretch to say that a change to J.Kidd would be the answer to that problem given the roster construction.

Lakers for better or worse are locked into the 35 year old version of the LBJ offense no matter who is the coach for the simple fact that there is no guard on the roster with the gravitas to counterbalance the repeated LBJ iso offense in crunch time. You just have to look to the 3 points in the final 5 minutes at home against the no defense Rockets and 5 point win over a GLeague Warriors team as evidence....that ain't on the coach...

Rondo/Caruso, Green/KCP, and to a lesser degree Bradley/Kuz are relatively poor fits with LBJ as they are not able to score/space consistently in the half court. That fact is mostly on the player's abilities and FO keeping them. Playing them all together of course is the coach's fault but the alternative would be Cook, Daniels or Dudley.

So, it isn't about the next 5 games or even the rest of the season, barring a roster change (like adding outside scoring thus benching Rondo/Green/Caruso) coaching wont make a significant difference toward the final outcome of the season. What I would say about the coaching is that now would be the time to give Cook and Daniels more run cause the outside shooting as it sits now isn't going to beat the good teams come playoff time...
