So All Time Laker/UCLA team is

Kareem
Ariza
Silk
Goodrich
Lonzo

I know I'm jumping the gun on Ball but Lucius and Walt were just kind of average even though they put up good numbers.

We need a true PF though... too bad Walton or Wicks never played for us... maybe you could use Nater as the PF.

Assuming everyone is healthy and in their prime, I think the non-Lakers are more talented with a much better bench, but that's to be expected -- they can draw from 29 teams, while be can only draw from one. So hiow about the all-time UCLA Clippers team ...

Bill Walton
Marques Johnson
Matt Barnes
Baron Davis
Pooh Richardson

I do too but I just looked up Kareem's first game against Walton and he put up 50 on him and Wicks when he played for Milwaukee and those two played for Portland.

Goodrich was a really good shooter from range too... not quite as good as Reggie but he played before the 3 pt line so we'll never know his TS%

Silk could keep up with Marques... RW right now is better than Lonzo though hopefully that will change with time. Ariza and Love are apples and oranges but maybe Trevor could neutralize Love's scoring.

I'd guess that the non-Lakers would win because of what you said... but I think with a prime Kareem anything could happen.

Gotta be the Lakers. 3 HOFers vs 1 though I do think Marques Johnson has a chance to get in at some point as they look at forgotten players. His accomplishments look similar to a lot of players already in the HOF. I want UCLA to maintain its lead on producing the most Hall of Famers. UNC and Kentucky are catching up and they both have players that will likely get in soon.

Silk is in the Hall, but I think Johnson was the better player in his prime -- but that was for Milwaukee.

Both Wilkes and Goodrich are among the weaker Hall of Fame choices (especially Gail; god knows who pulled what strings to get him in after he'd be retired for 18 years or what strings were pulled to get Wilkes in after 26 years in retirement) -- I wouldn't have voted for either myself.

Stumpy and West were money from downtown... I don't know how either of their games would translate today against 6' 6" positionless wings but they really shot well from distance. The reason I have a hard time with the Kobe era was that as a little kid I grew up seeing West and Goodrich at the end of their careers... and as a teenager and young adult I saw Magic/Scott/Wilkes
If the first thing you saw as a child was a 33 game win streak... or UCLA's 88 game streak with Walton... you see every perimeter player shooting close or over 50%... then all of a sudden Kobe's 45% doesn't look so hot... and certainly Kidd's 40% looks poor.

So yeah, I think the non Lakers beat the Lakers, but the Lakers beat the Clippers Bruins.

Gail was absolute money from around 15 feet -- I went to a couple of games during their 33 game winning streak.

The college careers of both Wilkes and Goodrich were huge factors in their admission to the HOF. I still think the Lakers take that matchup against the Clippers. As Lonzo gets older, I imagine that this matchup won't be particularly close.

Yep my parents had season tickets when I was little so I probably saw some during that time too. Sat near Chick in the Colonnade section.

Neither of them was a 50% shooter. Gail shot 45.6% for his career and West 47.4 % for his career.

It would be interesting to see how they did in a three-point shooting era, but of course we'll never know.

Scott 48... Silk 50... Magic 52... what I remember vividly about Magic's career is that he shot a "miserable" 47% during his aborted comeback attempt a few years after his HIV diagnosis and we all thought he was a shadow of his former self. Compare that to Kobe's farewell tour numbers of 37% and 36%

It still pisses me off that we allowed a former legend to play two full seasons at that level... Hell, we won't let Deng touch the court and he shot 39% during his last full season.
