It's unanimous from these four writers at NBA.com. I took a quick paragraph from each writer's comments. Click on link for the rest.
Which non-playoff team has brightest future for next season?
Quote: | Steve Aschburner: Got to go with the Lakers, both for the talent they already have on board and the free agents they’re positioned to woo this summer. |
Quote: | Tas Melas: The Lakers. Their young core of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, and Julius Randle have been playing well beyond their years. For such a young bunch to rank 12th defensively is very impressive (as my man John Schuhmann details with some stats below). |
Quote: | Shaun Powell: It's the Lakers, and by a landslide if they enjoy the offseason of their dreams. They're just set up to rebound better than the other teams, with money to spend, a dollop of young stars on rookie contracts |
Quote: | John Schuhmann: The Lakers. They already have four good young players on rookie contracts on their roster. Brandon Ingram showed some serious improvement with his offensive game in his second year, Kyle Kuzma is an all-around talent, and while Lonzo Ball can't shoot, he's been the rare rookie guard who makes an impact defensively. |

Eventually the national media and other teams’ fans will wake up to the Lakers young core. It’s popular to hate on the Lakers and ridicule them when looking at the standings and box scores, but anyone who is paying attention (rather than lazy narrative or hot take) will be able to see that Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma, Randle and Hart are going to bring a lot of pain to opponent fanbases.
The Lakers are coming.

Part of it is that there's a chance the Lakers become really great again this summer via FA and media folks want to say that they were in early on the Lakers resurgence. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

He's not a writer with NBA.com.

But I think it's also just hard to ignore that great January/February stretch we had, led by the youngsters, where we looked like a legit playoff team. Players have hot streaks that come and go, but teams just don't win like that over a 2-month period unless there's actually something of substance there. It's kind of similar to when the Sixers turned a corner with Embiid in the middle of last season, where you could actually start to see the skeleton of a contender. |

Yeah and a good Lakers team makes their jobs easy. They don't get clicks when they're writing about the Blazers as a 3 seed or how the Jazz have had an unreal record for the last 2 months. They get easy clicks when the Lakers are on top. |
