We are, above all, basketball fans here, so I believe you'll appreciate it:

Game between Cearense (white) and Bauru (black), in Brazilian League. Just 2 seconds left in the clock: Cearense 77-80 Bauru. Cearense has 2 FT to shoot. Guard Paulinho Boracini scores the first FT: 78-80.

Now, look what he did in the 2nd FT:

LINK

Random fact: Bauru is the team Leandro Barbosa played in Brazil, before being drafted by the Suns.

Incredible

Kobe had a similar shot like this vs the Rockets except it didn't win the game just tied it to go to OT if I remember correctly.

The way he made a beeline for the corner...he 100% meant to careen it off the left side of the rim. Sick.

He said he'd attempted this exact play in a game before and it failed, after which he spent hours practicing the scenario at home with his son.

That's absolutely how a missed FT should go. I don't really understand why NBA players can't use the same form and yet intentionally miss to the better rebounder on their own team.

Even if you are able to miss the ball in the direction of your rebounders, you still have to deal with the other team's rebounders in front of them in better position.

No matter how you slice it, this is a low-percentage play you only do in desperate circumstances. Pretty much everything had to go right for this guy -- the shot had to be perfect, so the ball went right where he wanted it; the defender to his left had to be asleep so he didn't box him out; the ball had to end up in a place where the free thrower could scoop it up and shoot quickly.

He could try that exact same move 500 more times and not have it work. And this is such a rare situation, it's hard to imagine NBA players putting in a lot of time practicing it over other things.

It's a low percentage play, but even I practiced a similar shot off the backboard without changing form, hitting backboard, hitting rim, and trying to get the right bounce to my teammates, not the first guy on the box out.

Of course it's a low percentage opportunity, but even guys like Kyrie Irving can't even fake it. He makes them still. Other guys just get horrible lane violations. It wrecks the play before they actually get a chance.

Basically it tells me the guy doesn't have any control of his shot, or any touch at all.

Hmm, is that play even legal in Brazilian BBall? In the NBA, he'd have been called for a violation since he goes for the rebound before it hits the rim.

A better play would be to do the exact same thing at he FT line, but have your sharp shooting teammate under the basket back off towards the three point line as you release it to grab your intentional miss and shoot the game winner. Then it would be legal and just as exciting.

EDIT: After watching it a few more times, it's clear he charges for the ball before it hits the rim, but because he initially moves laterally and is still behind the line when it actually does hit, I wonder how they would call it even in the NBA.

I looked it up. That's legal. The shooter just can't cross the line.
