Nope. Just looking for quite, rainy days and just chilling and doing nothing on a nice quiet island. I can always go to the sun. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Not even the mid-point. And it's not just the politics. It's just such a sterile (mostly) uninteresting place. La Jolla is great, but outside of that, it's really pretty uninteresting down the San Diego way. There's some great golf, and it's a great place to go out to sea on a fishing boat, but other than that . . .
Have you been to North Park, South Park, Hillcrest, University Heights, Mission Hills, Linda Vista/Convoy and the most recent version of Santee? If not, that's like going to LA and failing to visit Silverlake, Echo park, West Hollywood, China Town, Koreatown and Culver City. That's not to mention places like Imperial Beach, Old Town, Little Italy Point Loma and Ocean Beach.
The conservative politics also happen to end, for the most part, the father away you move from the ocean. If most of what you've experienced is Oceanside, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Coronado and La Jolla (which I am not assuming is the limit of your exposure, just saying "you" in the general sense), then its easy to see that perspective. While San Diego is a military town and somewhat of a retiree town, it also has three nationally acclaimed universities - it is a very much a college town too. As compared to LA, where most things are in your face and visible (if not easily accessible), its hard to see these things in San Diego or recognize them without living in SD. It's why I say living in SD trumps other cities, but just visiting SD tends to leave an incomplete picture, which is why SF is better for a quick visit in my mind. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Been all around San Diego. A good college buddy's family lived in Hillcrest and a bunch of people from my high school years went to UCSD and SDSU, so I have spent a bunch of time down in the more interesting places. And I've made many a trip to stay on Mission Bay and Point Loma to go fishing and diving.
Don't get me wrong, I like going to San Diego, it's just not a place that I could see doing on any kind of permanent basis. As ksmgf said, there's just a more diverse collection of things to do in LA. Of course the price is paid in that it's so sprawling and yet dense. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Is San Diego really that boring? It's the 8th largest city in California and larger than San Francisco (though the metropolitan area is smaller). I've never spent extended time there, but I've really enjoyed every visit. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

How do you feel about Newport Beach and Santa Barbara?
Love Santa Barbara. Lived there for 3 1/2 years. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

yes it is that boring. now any place is as boring as you let it be to some degree. but some cities have more things to do that are obvious. thats the key. you will have to ask someone to tell you about all the things there is to do in diego for you to realize"wow i never thought about doing all of that." like most cities, except for a handful.
I really like San Diego as a place to relax for a long weekend.
I'm actually moving to the Bay area soon. San Francisco is an amazing city but the rent is just ridiculous. I'm looking at $3,000 for a studio-- not even in SF.
Seattle seems really great too.
I hate Los Angeles and don't understand the appeal.
what do you hate about l.a.?
More of a sprawling suburb than a real city. Ridiculous traffic and need to drive to get around easily.
so you like a nice small town or a city with that "small town vibe'. Your a pasadena type of citizen. i get it.
now i hate the traffic. BUT, i love the fact that its sprawling. i've been here all of my life and I still find pockets of the city I have never been to. It's a never ending adventure. unless you were a delivery driver there's no way you've even seen all of L.A. even if you're a resident. Unless you're in your 60's. and you made it a point to do so.

Yeah. I think some cities are better left to visit than live in. San diego is awesome for visiting and I think if I didnt need to worry about a job, I’d love to live there. But theres no jobs outside of healthcare or military.
For me, I also don’t like LA for living. Too stressful for me. I’d prefer something quieter and simpler for living, with easy not-too-far access for fun. Frankly, its why I love being in OC. Day to day living is super convenient, and I can easily get to LA or SD depending on what I feel like.

Ehhh, I have lived a lot of places. For my lifestyle, it’s great. It is certainly not the most exciting by any stretch but most days aren’t exciting so I like the convenience factor. Low crime, I don’t deal with traffic (outside of rush hour), beach is close to me, all of my daily needs within 5 mins with no parking issues, and plenty of high paying jobs in my line of work.

I get it. But I could never do it. Every time I go to that part of the world, the whole sterile, planned community, HOA forced uniformity just grates on my soul. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Yeah I get that. That’s why I live in a non-HOA neighborhood =) Yes they exist! Haha.
I just dont get how city living folks do basic things like groceries or a Target run or even a quick bike ride or gym trip. I dated a girl in LA once and every time it was like, a chore. From traffic, to the parking, to the fact it wasn’t all that close by. Are you in a city?

I live in the sweet-spot of LA where I'm centrally located to anything I want to do. I have a couple of grocery options with ample parking moments from my house. There are dozens of good dining opportunities within minutes of my house, many of which I could walk to if I choose. One of the best movie theaters in town is right down the street. I can get to the beach in 5-10 minutes. I can get downtown in 15-20 when there's not traffic or I can take the Metro from the station down the street when there is. There are multiple entrances to the 10 and the 405 within blocks of my house, so I have options to getting around when the freeway is involved. And I get to live in one of the older, hilly, tree-lined communities where each street is different. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
