What is actually our title window if we land PG + LeBron?

The team so many are speculating is not winning a Championship in a year or two IMO. As James declines (despite a incredible year this year) and the young core ascends there might be a sweet spot in year three. If James can be a role player at that point. Not sure his body or ego would allow him to do so.

Why the Nuggets comparison. Why not the Jazz or Wolves? All three teams are developing a culture. Not so sure the proposed Laker team does not get knocked off by any in a playoff match-up. Not as lopsided as some would like to think with the win now couple year window Lakers.

Jazz have an all-NBA player in Gobert.

Twolves have likely 2 all NBA players in Butler/KAT.

Nuggs even have one in Jokic.

We have young guys who may become an all star 2-3 years from now.

We need top flight talent. Magic is not waiting 2-3 years so that they start approaching their pre-prime window all the while being an annual 8-9th seed level team.

It would be smart if he did to wait out the Houston/GSW window if necessary. CP3 is 32 and his knees can't warrant 36mpg over 82 games.

By that time we will have to pay BI/Lonzo/Kuz their FMV prices.

With a larger window, LeBron almost done with his career and Deng off the books. If LAL is unwilling to pay, that's their problem. The hard part is getting the talent in the first place. Are all 3 guys expected to make max money?

Same with GSW. Are they willing to pay?

As we're finding out with Jules' impending FA, things are a bit different when you go from a rookie scale deal to FMV. Now do that for 3 summers in a row.

This is why the FO is looking to get max FAs now and next summer IMO.

Get the max guys now. It doesn't mean boot youthcore just to build around those max guys.

The team is built around the youth core unit.

I don't think we are.

I'm saying that the chance to add max FAs is 2 summers and it's gone thereafter for the foreseeable future.

Ideally we get KL/PG13, keep our young core and pay them when their time is due.

I don't see why the Lakers should deviate from that ideal considering LeBron's age.

It would be different if LeBron and PG were both in their mid 20s.

I don't see LeBron playing for more than 3 more years, but after that, I think George will be just fine with Zo, Kuz, Hart, Ingram and Randle hitting their peaks...!

The idea is to have the best of both worlds. Sign elite level talent with your capspace, and develop elite level talent with your high-end lottery picks. I'm not going to put a cap on how long James can stay elite, I won't put a cap on how great Kuzma, Ball, Randle and Ingram can become.

Few teams can get 2 max players, and continue cultivating a young but talented young core who is good enough to contribute to a deep playoff run.

We're in rarified air if we can nail 2 max FAs this summer, or 1 max FA in 2018 + 1 max FA in 2019.

It's incredible that some would turn down a 3 year window (with a chance, depending on our young core, to be stretched longer but TBD).

Like anyone here has the opportunity to turn down anything. That is up to FAs.

That is the real disconnect, we overrate some of our young players. Randle is ready for sure, and maybe Hart and Kuzma as 4 year college players. Ball we have no idea, he looked decent in limited play but how limited will he be in the future? Ingram has looked really good in 3-4 months of his 2 year career, not so good the rest of the time. We are probably 2 years away from being that contending team, assuming we don’t get rid of some of these young players. That is why with Lebron and George, we need to add some solid vet min players to support them.

I agree. It is not what Magic will do. That is my concern.

The Lakers will do everything in their power to make the big splash. Including already selling off assets in the hopes it can happen this summer.

I simply do not not see the team on the court being the contending juggernaut that others seem to. James is a small window that needs a lot of dominoes to fall into place.

That's the way I see it.

This all changes if a healthy Leonard is available. That would make us a contender for at least 5 years with him and PG13.

Well, the "developed" players currently on the Cavs, who LeBron is carrying now include:
Jose Calderon 36 yo
Jeff Green 31
George Hill 31
Kyle Korver 37
JR Smith 32

Perhaps he would enjoy playing with players who are on their way UP the talent latter instead of players on their way DOWN....!

The only "young" guys are Ingram and Ball. Hart and Randle will be 24 next season, Kuzma will be 23. Ball and Ingram are former #2 picks, and we see how guys in their draft class have already played well (Simmons, Brown, Murray), (Tatum, Markahen, Smith).

We should expect significant improvement from Ball and Ingram. You add that to the fact that the Lakers would be signing veterans with room exception, and ring chasers for the vet min, and I can easily see this team being 10-11 deep.

How long is our window with James and George? I don't know, but we have drafted better than any team in the league, so I believe as James is on the decline, Ingram will be ready for a bigger role. And if he isn't, the Lakers will have no problem trading him for someone who is.

fans always say this because they are obviously looking at it from a logical standpoint...or what they see as logical....but if you look at it from a historical standpoint, he has always preferred to surround himself with players his age or older....and has never appeared to be very fond or close to young players on the roster.

The thing is, after lebron is gone we’d have already paid our young guys big money and would have no open cap to sign anyone. If we signed 2 guys in their 20s like a PG and Kawhi, then we could re-sign or at the very least if it didn’t work out, trade for younger cheaper assets. If we get lebron it wouldn’t leave options after he’s gone.
