This one hurts. "Pure Heart" is one of the greatest stories I have ever read, in sports or elsewhere. Secretariat was obviously a legend, and the article is the stuff of legend too, as far as I'm concerned. I remember first reading it as a 13-year-old, not really familiar with Secretariat's exploits at that time, other than knowing he was a great racehorse who had died a few months earlier.
Mr. Nack obviously had many other great works in his brilliant career, but this one is in a league of its own. RIP, sir.
