The Eagle was awesome, but those two under shots cost him.

The [British] Open is this week.

My pick:

Rory McIlroy.

Can't count out Koepka either.

Molinari is in the running as well I think.

My sentimental pick is Fleetwood.

Great picks.

Watch out for a slimmed down and focused Phil Mickelson, I know it sounds crazy. Other than him, I will take Koepka.

Phil has done some surprising stuff this year.

And Koepke is never a bad pick the way he has been playing.

Kuchar is someone who could surprise. It'd be interesting to see him avenge that brutal second behind Spieth in '17.

Looking at the schedule, Woods, Johnson and Wallace tee up together at 7:10 AM PDT. That's an interesting trio.

I don't know anything about this course. With that said, I'll go with Molinari.

Phil Mickelson in the clubhouse @ +5....guess losing that 15 lbs. did not help. J.B. Holmes (USA) the current leader in the clubhouse with a -5!

The current cut is at +2 and over. It probably won't shift more than a stroke. Looks like we won't be seeing Tiger or Rory on Saturday.

Glad I didn't put any actual money on Rory. He laid an egg today.

Koepka is within striking distance.

Tiger tried to rally early....but stalled down the stretch. Misses the cut by 4 or 5 strokes. Better scores appear to be coming in later in the afternoon.

did you happen to see that long putt by Lee Westwood (tied with Fleetwood) on hole 12 or 13 if I recall?

I did. Grace almost got the second Hole-in-One at 13 a bit ago.

Interesting stat: Tiger and Phil have been in 83 majors together and this will be the first time they have both missed the cut.

I did not see Grace....but that Westwood putt caught my attention, because that was the kind of putt combined with his overall score that tells me he may be feeling it this weekend, and could be a threat.

Have you ever played a true "links" course?

Rory gave it his best but came up a stroke short.

Only the form of the three Pebble Beach Links. But that was many years ago a teenage hacker.

Hopefully none of you were dumb enough to take my Mickelson prediction seriously.

I have Koepka too because old guys can cheat.

8 on the first hole and then starts playing paddle ball around the cup on another hole and still only misses the cut by a shot.

Strangely unimpressive, yet impressive.

I do not play as much anymore, but earlier in my career, I worked with some guys that began to put together an annual trip over to Ireland, Scotland, etc. for a week of links golf and lots of ale. At the time, I was married with a very young child, and my wife worked full time also....so it just was not the right time for me to get away with a bunch of single guys. I look back and regret it some....not sure I will have another chance to go over and play. Most of the ones in the US that are really close to true links courses are on the West Coast and Northeast Coast....and are private courses.
