Besides Kobe, Wilt and James. My choice would be George Mikan.

If some future ownership group wanted to do it, after the Buss family is out of the picture, that would be a different matter.

It's weird for anyone to put up a statue for an owner. You want to name a part of the arena or adjacent area after an prominent owner, great. But erect a statue? No way.

Definitely Dr. Buss. Just look at the freak show we've been seeing after he had passed away. Lakers were once a mighty empire for many years until the demise of its great leader.

Itís a question if he gets his jersey retired, def not a statue outside Staples.

Seems like the Lakers want to wait until the Laker legend is retired a certain amount of time or inducted into the hall, but Kobe is Kobe...

2. Wilt?

3: Worthy?

Who else?

Not sure the fan base resonates with Mikan or Goodrich. Wilkes was not good enough.

Another thought:

Dr. Jerry Buss

I really don't consider Wilt an all time Laker great. He's more of a great who happened to play with the Lakers. It'd be the same if LeBron signed here.

He never played in LA, though. Iíd have no problem with it, but it would be a little odd. It would be like putting a statue of Kurt Warner outside the Ramsí new stadium.

Sure, because the team moved. But he was the first team and league superstar. Would you not put up a statue to magic if the team moved from LA? Itís a franchise, not just a location.

How has nobody said Slava Medvenko yet? Or will he be included in Kobe's statue?

For real though Jerry Buss, 100% needs a statue but I've heard they are thinking of putting it in Commerce Casino.

I get where youíre coming from, but I think itís kind of a different situation. Dr. Buss is pretty much universally accepted as one of the best owners in sports history, and was synonymous with the Lakers brand for 3 decades of unprecedented success.

If this were any other team/ownership family, then Iíd absolutely agree. I just donít think anyone would have a problem with it, and itís undoubtedly deserved.

Isnít it AEG who puts up the statues? The Lakers wouldnít put up Gretzky or De La Hoya.

Well, there is no question that he will absolutely get his jersey retired with the Lakers.
