Curious what people think. Some here want to resign KCP at his current salary, but Ariza at 8 million per year was considered too expensive. Is KCP even better?

Ariza. Not even close.

One was a big contributor to the championship roster, another is low IQ and a chucker on a non-playoff team.

Ariza is on the decline imo. If you asked this a few years ago, easy choice.

He said as a laker,so it does not matter if ariza is on the decline. Even though i still take current ariza, can still D up and shoot the three.

I'd take KCP he's a better scorer and can still d up. I wouldn't of taken him at the begining of the year but he showed me he's a great shooting guard.

Depends on the salaries and roles.

I’m not giving kcp 18 a year for multiple years though

Ariza was on a championship team, KCP was on a lottery team. With that said, I would think the player that contributed to success had more value than the player that contributed towards failure

Different positions, different roles. Ariza was an ideal fit for that team . . . but they didn't hesitate to let him walk because they had a better replacement for him in Metta. Remember, Ariza only started 23 games as a Laker - he was a 2nd unit 3 and D guy. Given that, I picked KCP because he was an everyday starter.

Why are people faulting KCP for being on a worse team? That's not his fault.

Ariza played with Kobe and Gasol, so of course his team was more successful.

But I do agree that Ariza is more valuable. Better length and played smarter. KCP is a more versatile scorer, but that's about it. Not really the same type of player, so the comparison doesn't seem all that fair.

Ariza. He had some huge clutch moments in the playoffs. Where KCP was not exactly clutch this season. I like KCP, but Ariza at the time seemed like he was going to be the new Robert Horry.

Different roles. Hard to compare IMO.

Depends on what the Lakers accomplish in free agency before either would be offered anything anyways. Also on what either actually would sign for.

Ariza fits if he accepts a short term mid level type contract to backup Ingram.

But if Lakers are planning for the long game then KCP makes more sense. Not at $18M per year. Also not likely another one year deal either. But as a longer addition to the roster at a more reasonable price. Absolutely prefer him.

Depending on the roster composition would he be happy with a more rotational role and a 4 yr/ $48M type contract?

If the Lakers can land George and with the improvement of Hart it would be seem less likely. Lakers have much bigger issues to decide upon before they can grind over Ariza or KCP.

he started only 23 games Phil had an unworldly obsession over Luke Walton. It was one of the most frustrating things ever... we had one of the best role players we could imagine in Ariza yet Phil let Luke steal a lionshare of the minutes. It took Luke himself to tell Phil Ariza deserved more playing time.
in my book:
prime Ariza >> Lakers version of Metta (so overrated at this point of his career... people love bring up his game7 shot against the Celtics but fail to realize if he was playing better it wouldnt have got to a game 7 to begin with)
prime Ariza >> KCP

I actually think ariza on the lakers is overrated but he definitely meant more for us than KCP, not sure how this is even a discussion

Who has said they want to resign KCP at his current salary?

I think he's been pretty decent, but I can't imagine that.

Back then the salary cap was 58 million and we had big salaries on the team like Kobe, Pau, Odom and a Bynum extension coming up. Ariza also wanted a long term deal.

Very different from today where it's at 100 million and people are advocating we should resign KCP for another rental deal only if we strike out on free agency (I'm not among those BTW, prefer those minutes given to Hart and another shooter signed).
