Another assault weapon ( AR-15) used in mass shooting.

In July 2017, Reinking was arrested by U.S. Secret Service for being in a restrictive area near the White House. His guns were taken away and given to his father, who eventually gave Reinking the guns back, Aaron said.

At the request of the FBI, his firearms authorization was revoked and four weapons were seized. The guns were given to his father who ultimately gave them back to his son. Aaron said police discovered two guns, but two others were still unaccounted for.

Did his father break a law?

Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking arrested, police say https://wapo.st/2qTEnpp?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.85d929faeab0

Police in Nashville said Monday that they had arrested Travis Reinking, the 29-year-old accused of killing four people in a shooting rampage at a Waffle House over the weekend.

The announcement Monday afternoon came nearly 34 hours after the mass shooting, which unnerved the Tennessee capital and prompted a sprawling manhunt. A little more than an hour before police said they had apprehended Reinking, authorities had acknowledged having “no confirmed sightings” of him and saying they were not even sure if he remained in the area.

Police did not immediately say how Reinking was located, saying initially that he was apprehended in a wooded area a little more than a mile from the Waffle House. The Nashville police posted a photo of Reinking online that showed his shirt visibly torn with his arms behind his back.

While Reinking had remained at large, police had warned he was dangerous and said he showed “signs of significant instability,” Don Aaron, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, said at a news briefing earlier Monday.

Aaron pointed to Reinking’s arrest outside the White House last year as well as a string of bizarre encounters with law enforcement officials in Illinois. Reinking once told law enforcement officers that the singer Taylor Swift had been harassing and stalking him — a delusion that authorities in Illinois said Reinking had had for years.

Last year, police records show that Reinking went to a local pool in Illinois wearing a pink dress and swam in his underwear while coaxing life guards to fight him. Soon after, he traveled to the nation’s capital and tried to cross a security barrier near the White House, declaring himself a “sovereign citizen” who wanted to speak with President Trump.

Very glad they found him

How was the kid free in society to begin with

Does the NRA feel good that this person with psychological disabilities was allowed to keep his guns?

Does the Constitution really look like a document built to cause us harm?

We have a terrorist watch list
Was this kids ability to buy a gun blocked in any efficient way?
Doesn't matter who gave his guns back to him. They should have never been put in that situation. They should have been taken by police and a federal gun registration block put on his name

Sad that our people don't feel connected enough to seek help for their own soul

May all those affected find some peace

That man was fighting for his life.

Quote:
"I didn't really fight that man to save everyone else. That may not be a popular thing," said Shaw, who was raised in the area, went to Tennessee State University and now works as a wireless technician for AT&T. "I took the gun so I could get myself out" of the situation. But he said he was glad to save other lives as well.

I always wonder how a guy who murdered people can be taken peacefully but a guy in a car with his GF and Baby in the back seat can be deemed a threat and needs to be killed, glad they caught this guy but a question that always pops in my mind

I haven't read the whole story

Who put the responsibility on the father to watch the property of an adult male citizen

Our shooter is 29 years old

It sounds like a judge or LEO didn't confiscate his guns if his father hid them from him? What sort of rural Justice is this?

I read the article. All the signs of mental instability were listed. Reinking is a classic case of a person who should have been institutionalized. The unnamed woman who gave birth at the scene has a story to tell her child.

Well known comedian and sometimes political pundit DL hughley said he was in the area after doing a show. and people that were working the show said lets go to the waffle house. He and a few others decided not to make the trip and go to bed but someone else working at one of the affiliated radion stations ended up being shot(still alive and recovering from her injuries.)

The parent or parent's that gave him the gun(s) back need to go to jail. and I'm not talking 6 months. Let them do a couple of years in jail and a bunch of years on probation.

If the sandy hook mother wasnt killed by her own son i would've suggested the same thing for her as well.

when you know your kid is crazy like DL hughley stated in the video i posted above. and you still choose to give him/her weapons or weapons training or give the weapon(s) back to him after they were taken away. You deserve to get some part of that sentence that your crazy kid would have gotten if they were alive or if they are alive. blood is on your hands at that point. Maybe, just maybe this will teach those parents a lesson. You can't be negligent with your mentally ill children. They are YOUR responsibility. Do what you can in YOUR power to not allow them to use weapons to harm themselves, you, or others. call the mental institutions, call the cops, fbi, take their guns away, dont buy them guns for their birthday, etc.

The guns were taken away by the courts, and given to the Dad. He stated he wold not give them to the t
errorist, he lied.

Father of Waffle House shooting suspect had taken son's guns away 3 times and returned them, reports show http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-waffle-house-shooting-suspect-morton-20180423-story.html

Failed efforts
Reports released by the Tazewell County sheriff’s office show at least three occasions when Reinking’s father, Jeffrey Reinking, took possession of his son’s guns, only to return them to him.

In August 2017, Reinking was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service after authorities said he crossed a restricted area near the White House, saying he wanted to meet President Donald Trump. He was not armed during the incident, but the FBI requested that Illinois State Police revoke his firearm owner’s identification card.

Travis Reinking handed over his FOID card to officers and transferred four weapons, along with ammunition, to his father, according to an Illinois State Police Firearm Disposition Record. The weapons were a 9 mm handgun, an AR-15 rifle, a .22-caliber rifle and another rifle.

Aaron said Travis Reinking’s father acknowledged to officials that he gave the weapons back to his son.

At a news conference Monday, Special Agent Marcus Watson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said Jeffrey Reinking could face charges for returning guns to his son, an act that was "potentially a violation of federal law."

As it should. The father should be charged with something. Love of a child is understanding, allowing that love to cause destruction has to be cured. Jail time would be my cure. A precedence has to be set.

I think our Govt has so many (bleep) up clauses

This is an ADULT Male
Considered an Adult for the last 11 years

The government NEVER should put the onus to protect us on some family member.. Never!

Never again shall this happen where a family member holds the guns.. The (bleep) police departments are open TWENTY FOUR hours a day..

I am confused why all of you are jumping on the father and not the stupid rule that allowed this

FWIW.. NO way in hell would Travis "Jamaal" Jackson had ever received all of these strange sentences..

Yes, he does deserve some sentencing and all states laws need changed that allow a family member to take the guns..
Police impound open alllll day alll year.. need the guns for legit reason? they will give them to you..

They should have taken them and auctioned them and gave him the money or taken it as restitution.
