Quote:
League sources: In addition to tournaments in Las Vegas and Utah, the NBA plans to introduce a 2018 Sacramento Summer League. The event is tentatively scheduled to include the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat.

Reportedly all 30 teams will play in the Las Vegas Summer League where the Lakers are the defending Champions.

Josh Hart should easily have his way in the summer league especially if he’s gonna be a good role player.

Love that Hart, Bryant and the #25 pick (if not dumped with Deng) can get more reps. Hell, I'd love to see Matt Thomas again.

With no Lonzo, Kuzma or Ingram this year's team won't be nearly as dynamic.

Hart: His game isn't necessarily made for Summer League play, but it will be interesting to see if he continues to progresses in his shot making (finished the year very strong in that area) and perhaps expand his game a little as a playmaker. He will also need to keep the team organized along with (presumably) Caruso. Bottom Line: Show you're better than the S/L competition.

Bryant: His shooting and intensity will likey have people excited but more importantly he will have to show he's improved his latteral quickness and rebounding instincts. Magic and Pelinka appear to be fans so he should get his chance to show out. Bottom Line: Show you can defend Pick and Roll.

Caruso: Assuming he comes back starting with summer league. Should be key to keeping the team organized as a point guard with more experience than most Summer Leaguers and having spent a year in LA's system. Needs to show improvement as a shooter and as a defender. Bottom Line: Show you can run a unit.

Wear: Also assuming he's back starting with Summer League. His shooting stroke and willinging to keep working should earn him another look. After two years in LA's system and being on the outer fringe of the roster (G-League, camp invites, 10-day) he is going to have some advantages over other summer league players thrown into a roster mixing pot. He's never going to overwhelm the competition physically but Bottom Line: Show the work he has put in over the last several years have made him a system player worth a minimum deal.

Payton II: His game seems made for summer league. But those aren't the things that will impress his bosses. He needs to show he can keep things organized and make open shots. Bottom Line: Needs to show he continues to grow in a number of areas but probably still a G-league candidate.

Pick #25: TBD

Pick #47: TBD

Can we all just agree that if Josh Hart were to struggle in Summer League or not average 25 ppg that suddenly people don't try to mob mentality with the "lol overrated/let's see who we can get for him" mentality as if he didn't do any good against actual NBA competition?

At the end of the day... it's freaking Summer League.

Or conversely, if he DOES average 25ppg, people will be like "why did we sign X agent? Hart does what X does on a cheap rookie scale contract!"

Oh, and if Fox plays in the Sac league, since Lonzo's already ruled out, the narrative will be he's ducking him again :eyeroll:

Wasn't on the team last year and there aren't a lot of guys setting up shooters in summer league.

Madsen coached the team in 2015. Mermuys coached in 2016. Jud Buechler was the coach in 2017. I wonder if Miles Simon gets the look this time around.

That's my guess. Maybe they have a different coach for Sacrmento & Las Vegas.

The League wants exposure in a market that hasn't had an NBA team in years.

I get what you're saying in terms of overreaction. No stopping it really.

For Hart in particular, I think he will almost certainly play well. Four year college vet with an NBA season under his belt. He battled some of the NBA's very best last year and really was up to the challenge. The competition in the summer league is well below a level he's already shown he can compete. Kind of surprised he's playing (or that if he is that Kuzma and Ball aren't).

I like this 2 league idea - more to watch. Two draft picks as it stands, good so far. Hart coming back - it'll be interesting to see if he tries a lead role on for size. If Matt Thomas could come back it would be great to see if he can replicate what he did last year with Caruso pushing the pace.

Once we know who we picked it'll get even better.

honestly....I would prefer there be one single Summer League....all 30 teams in Vegas....add 2 more games per team to the pre-playoff portion of event. Set the playoffs part up as East vs. West, just like the league.

Pre Playoff segment - Each team plays 1 game against each of the other Division Teams (4 Games) and 1 game against a team in each of the other 2 Conference Divisions (2 Games) for a total of 6 games.

Playoff Segment - Single Game Elimination, top team in each conference get a 1st Round Bye, while the other 14 teams play each other (#2 vs. #15, #3 vs. #14) to advance to Round 2. Those 8 teams will play, 4 Teams to Round 3, 2 Teams to Round 4, and 1 Team to the Final.

Make it one huge event!

***the eliminated teams can play each other to get more games.

Wonder if we can pick up Nance for our Summer League team since apparently he doesn't play for he Cavs anymore. 🤣

Maybe he'll even sign some little kid's autograph...

Could be that too. Simon was the USA Select head coach for a tournament and Coby Karl (George Karl's son) is the coach of the SB Lakers. Could give each of them some run.

I'm surprised that Hart is playing too, and I don't think he'll play the entire event. Perhaps he can help his Villanova buddy Jalen Brunson get his feet wet as a pro, since we could end up taking him!
