Quote:
Speaking at a company analyst and investor day event Thursday, MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren said he expects the NBA to come to Las Vegas in a few years.

Murren sees an NBA team relocating like the NFL’s Oakland Raiders' pending 2020 move to Las Vegas, and not an expansion team being added, like in the case of the NHL’s Golden Knights.

“I think it’s highly likely that a team, or multiple teams, will be looking to move over the next three years,” Murren said. “We know who they are, that’s why I think it’s highly likely. I would expect that Las Vegas will have an NBA team within the next five years, if not sooner. That team would likely play at T-Mobile (Arena).”

Assuming that this guy isn't just blowing smoke, I wonder what teams would be looking to move at this point in time? I think the Kings are off the table, though I haven't been following that drama. The Bucks are about to finish a new arena. The Hawks are renovating their arena.

Ballmer did not spend $2B for a team in Las Vegas.

If there's a team out there that might relocate, think it'll be the Grizzlies.

Vegas mostly has Laker fans and Kings fans, Clippers are better off going to a small place like Fresno were people might fall in love with them.

Yea but I don’t think he realized that he paid 2 billion dollars on a team that gets absolutely 0 respect

The Golden Knights are a big deal in Vegas because they are the first pro sports team in the city that isn’t a minor league team. And they are vastly exceeding expectations so much that it’s shocking. And the team has an exciting style of play.

Not sure how the Clippers would be received. As someone said there are a decent number of Laker fans in the city, and those people are more likely to dislike the Clippers. With the hockey team there was no history so it’s harder to dislike an expansion team IMO.

The Golden Knights are in the conference finals. The Clippers never make the conference finals.

It’s probably just another arrogant thing to come out of the mouth of Jim Murren. An NBA team in Vegas won’t be as big of a deal with the Knights and Raiders in town. And wouldn’t Ballmer prefer Seattle to Vegas?

NHL got the ball rolling. NFL followed. Wouldn't be surprised if theres eventually an NBA team there as well.

Vegas was the same sports territory as the socal teams. With Vegas getting their own sports teams now they will probably carve out their own identity.

I would guess that it would be easy to recruit FAs to come play in Las Vegas.

I don't think they will leave a huge market where they sell out every game. That would be nuts.
