I can't believe there is no topic about this yet (unless it got buried in one of those useless "official" threads).

LaVar Ball
Quote:
“My expectation for Lonzo is for him to be twice as good as he was this year, and to be more healthy,” LaVar told HoopsHype. “He understands, he went through it. If you’re going to be doing those [workouts with] rubber-bands like that dude Gunnar has him doing, that [is] bullsh*t training. That’s what I call it. Sh*t, he wasn’t like that when I brought him over there. When he first came [to the Lakers], he never got hurt. He was never hurt.”

LINK

LaVar's taking shots at the team now. This feels like a new level of ugly.

I can't remember in any sport a players parent making me sour on the actual player. I think Lonzo is a wonderful, unique player in todays NBA. I have maintained that he is worth the BS his dad brings, but i am starting to sway in that regard. Gunnar is a favorite of both Magic and Rob, and i am pretty certain these recent comments are not going to go over well with them. Could Laver be the reason Lonzo is eventually dealt somewhere else. 6 months ago i say no way, now probably not but i would not be surprised.

What I don't understand is why anyone cares what he says and why people continue to fall for writers producing clickbait for traffic. I excerpts what he says, laugh at his stupidity, and move on with my day. Thankfully he's probably a year away from his routine being old news. I love that forum blue and gold just refuses to even mention him. That's how you do it.

Like I guessed, buried in a worthless "official" thread where actual topical discussions go to die...

i think the issue is or at least my main issue is his comments are bashing members of the organization and in all of these occasions not once has Lonzo stepped up and said otherwise. That is the main issue i have. i get staying quiet for the first couple but at some point you have to be your own man and stop letting daddy speak on your behalf, especially if his comments are not reflective of how you feel or see it. unfortunately because ZO won't or hasn't come out and said anything no one really knows how he feels.

Jorge Sedano felt that Pelinka threw shade at Lavar by saying that Lonzo used to train in the mountains of Chino Hills, but this summer he'd like to see Zo in the weight room. I'm paraphrasing of course. Maybe Lavar felt that was shade too, thus the response. Either way, I don't care for it.

Interesting thing is, looks like Bogut took a shot at the Lakers "Celebrity Trainer" on Twitter as well...

Another good thing is PG and Bron come. No one is gonna care about Lavars mouth and neither of them will deal with a crappy trainer. Lot of things will get set straight getting real vets in here.

I can ignore the Lavar sideshow, but yes, at some point Lonzo needs to tell the old man to shut the hell up. He's a professional now with a job and he needs to act like it. You can't bring daddy with you to any other job and have him trash your bosses or tell you how to do your job, and Lonzo is, as far as I'm aware, the only guy who lets his dad dictate his job duties to him publicly over the team. It's just unprofessional of Lonzo at this point to allow this to continue. Lavar can give him advice privately--that's fine. But be a grown up and tell him to keep his damn mouth shut in public when it comes to your job.

You really think Lavar will stop talking because Lonzo says so then you really dont get that the man believes any publicity is good publicity. You do. Not. Feed. The. Trolls. The media would go into a feeding frenzy with a dad vs. son storyline. Ignoring him is by far the best option. Let him fade into irrelevance. It's working. The number of Lavar appearances and stories have fallen dramatically.

How do you know he hasn't privately told his dad that. It's his dad. How many bombastic dads let their children tell them what to do. Lavar considers himself an overnight celebrity. God couldn't make dude shut up . He's gonna talk as long as the media gives him a platform and that IS NOT a 19 year old kids fault. That's ridiculous. Kobe couldn't even stop his family from doing dumb stuff. Expectations are absurd.

Bogut(whom was a Laker last year) has jumped in on this as well

Love glued together. If Lonzo is that, no one can fix that.

LaVar is full of it...

Maybe. But Lavar strikes me as someone who only responds to shows of strength. The nice behind-closed-doors talks haven't yielded anything. He may throw a temper tantrum but this is the only chance they have of curbing his antics imo.

Any of you guys expert at this, like a real fitness trainer, I’m actually really curious, does LaVar has a point? Is this guy Gunnar good or not good?

No one can answer this unless we know Gunnar's exact workouts. But I'm going to assume that training athletes vs celebrities (kardashians and others) is not the same thing.

He's trained more than celebrities. Let's not pick and choose facts guys. TBS I'd rather hire Julius' trainer.

I'm happy to have gotten to a point where what LV says isnt news. He will always try to make controversy to get eyeballs. It's not productive to buy into it.
