Also FYI... Westgate is a major Vegas sportsbook betting company.

Cleveland is 30 to 1 and OKC is 60 to 1. It looks like a pretty good bet that LeBron and Paul George will not be back with their teams.

Cleveland should be in the 300 range, once LeBron goes... Kevin Love and all there vets are gonna get traded....

Nope.

Does not mean Lebron plus one are coming.

Vegas is literally protecting their asses in case they do come. Very few people take this bet, but many more people would take the bet if it was honest odds (125-1?) based on the current roster.

The books have to Be conservative and discourage bets where a longhort may become a contender before the season.

That's comforting to know. I guess Vegas already knows where Lebron and PG13 are gonna end up. That's some very high expectation for next year.

How do you come to a conclusion that these bets are based on rather FAs come? Westgate isn’t just some puff betting company, they control basically all of Vegas.

The House always wins. Looks like they are trying to prevent a bunch of bettors from picking up some long shot odds and then on the chance Lebron, PG13 and whatever free agents on the market decide to join the Lakers.

If these betting odds were based on calculations, then the Clippers should be Top 10 since the Spurs might trade Kawhi to the Clippers but they are basically at the bottom of the barrel.

We cut all of those teams' odds down, and we'll raise back up the teams he doesn't sign with."

Don't know if you're old enough to enter a casino but basically everything Vegas does is done to protect themselves. It's the same reason why Philly is ahead of us... LeBron. I'm certain there are tons of people putting bets on teams like Philly and LA just in case he comes and this is how they cover themselves. Those odds will move up and as more news comes available and we get closer to July 1. Once he signs somewhere, everyone else drops.

These oddsmakers are like doctors taking a pulse, in this case, it's the pulse of the betting public. Clippers rarely have celebrities plopping down millions on them to win a title. The Lakers, however...

The goal of these spreads is to get the big money evenly spread among each of the top teams; most people put the money down on a team they know. If one team had more money on them and the odds were not balanced, bookies go broke. A bookie's goal is to have even liability regardless of who wins, and to simply live off of their commission. Example: If one bookie has too many bets for the Warriors, he will try to find a bookie with more bets for the Cavs and they will trade some of their "liabilities".

tl:dr Westgate is trying to predict where the money will be bet on, not actually ranking the odds of the 2019 title.

For more on this, look up Danny Sheridan. He explained this at length during the second hour of the Finebaum Show podcast on Friday.

So it is actually based on calculations.

Yup. Last year we opened at 100-1, and after all offseason activity was complete we were 300-1. There were no rumors or buzz or real chance at major FAs prior to free agency last year.

This year there is, so they are hedging against that possibiltiy.

Even if these are just pre-determine odds, you have to think they feel real good about our off season, they easily could have just put us in the same category with the Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic but they seem confident about something, now we wait and see..

No, it is to sucker Laker fans into throwing down their money on them.

The same can be said for the Miami Heat... why are they in the top 10? they surely aren’t gonna convince ANYONE to throw money on them.
