IT was an MVP candidate that led Boston to the ECF just a year ago, 1 year ago!

He went from possibly getting a max contract, to now signing for the MLE in a span of 1 season.

Can IT get back near that form or at least be an All-Star again after a full rest this summer?

*************************************************

Kawhi Leonard segue:

For those that think IT won’t be able to get back to that form, do you believe Kawhi Leonard would be able to get back close to his old form from a year ago as well? If so, what’s the difference? Still worth the supermax?

2018 Kawhi: 9 games, 16.2 pts, 4.7 reb, 2.7 ast

2018 Isaiah: 32 games, 15.8 pts, 2.8 reb, 4.1 ast

What about Kawhi?

Can he get back to being 2014 finals MVP? What’s the difference that he can do it and rebound from a disastrous last season, more disastrous than IT’s, and still be worth the supermax?

Thomas did not lead Boston to the ECF. Their system and coach did. This season proves it. Thomas is a very overrated player.

Then using that logic...what would you say about what San Antonio accomplished this year without Kawhi all season? At the very least Stevens had Kyrie for the majority of the year.

And Indiana without Paul George.

Would Kawhi still be as effective as he was without Popavich and he Spur’s system?

I can say this objectively now that it looks like we will sign LBJ/PG maybe Kawhi

Isaiah's scoring average per season

11.5, 13.9, 20.3, 16.4, 22.2, 28.9, 15.2

Kawhi's scoring average per season

7.9, 11.9, 12.8, 16.5, 21.2, 25.5, 16.2

Both 2X All stars

However, according to LG medical journals if you are 5' 9" your body cannot heal as well as someone who is 6' 7".

IT is valued as a room exception contract

Kawhi is worth trading Lonzo/Ingram/Kuzma/Draft Picks and possibly clearing Randle out plus a max contract.

Look, for the 1000th time I'm aware Kawhi is the superior player because of his two way capabilities... but I just had to point this out because the different in perception between the two was absolutely mindboggling.

One player quits on his team... and he's misunderstood

The other guy plays through injury, ruining his big contract chances and he's a cancer.

I wish IT good luck, and I hope he does well but doesn't come back to haunt us on Boston, Philly, or OKC.

You can be glad we didn't sign him... but the poor guy didn't deserve all the disrespect he got on this forum.

Good points. Not that I’d prefer IT but there’s definitely a double standard in play.

What some people ignore is that I always wanted PG/LBJ first... IT was my backup point guard choice over Trey Burke/Jarrett Jack type players if LBJ didn't come.

I still want him if LBJ bails on us. We need cover for Lonzo.

But since LBJ looks like a done deal, I'm at peace with our point guard situation.

The hate on this forum for the guy was ridiculous. I wonder who the new whipping boy will be.

I hope Isaiah gets a one-year 17-20m+ deal like Reddick or KCP with a team who has cap space this year (looking to land bigger fish in 2019)

Or a long-term deal over 30-40m.

But the writing's on the wall, even if it's JUST Lebron coming, don't see any way of IT staying here. He'll be a fun footnote in Laker history come July.

Much like his diminutive stature, IT’s Lakers tenure was short.

I doubt he becomes All-Star level again, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Isaiah came back. And I wouldn't necessarily protest it either.

It be interesting if he went back to Boston as their 6th man on a very friendly deal.

Oh com one. One is the best defensive player in the league. The other is possibly the worst (and three years older to boot.).

Come on now..when does this place care about defense? where is defense when randle is at center or Brook shooting threes or Kuzma? We only care if its the whooping boy of this team. Heck there are people looking for DV or some Klay thomas clone...not for what they can do on D but because they can supposedly shoot...IT is not D but Offense and all of us know it but try complaining about some defense that the whole team doesn't play anyway.

If noone cares then whats with all these responses? I think he can come back to form...he played thru injury so you have to see after a break to actually see is he worth the money.
