PostPosted: Tue Jun 19, 2018 7:20 am    Post subject: Guess Our Draft

Two days from the draft, let's guess what Magic, Pelinka and Buss will do with #25 and #47. Guess the drafted player, if we keep the picks. If we don't keep one or both picks, you have to guess if we're trading up, trading down or trading the pick away.

Me first:

25. DeAnthony Melton
47. Trade up

I couldn't find any. If you mean the main draft thread, it's more about preferences and analysis than guessing what the FO is doing.

Here you go:

http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=184959

They buried it outside the Lounge and guess what, once you're outside the Lounge you are as good as dead.

Mods...that thread had a four year tradition on the L.

Just sayin'

Thanks, I went there after epak's heads up and didn't find as the last post was 10 days ago.

I suggest the mods to bring that thread here, as it's Lakers related, and kill this one or merge, idk

I'm going to say no one guesses our two draft picks correctly (assuming we keep both picks)

When was the last time someone actually was correct in guessing all the picks we had in a given year?

I hope Lakers trade down in the draft from 25th pick to 2 early 2nd round picks for the following reasons. Would be nice if they purchased a 2nd rounder in the 30-40 range as well.

1. This is a deep draft. You can get a lot of value in the 2nd round.

2. Only 1st rounders have a cap hold. Lakers can hold off on signing 2nd round players until after they complete their free agent signings.

I think Lakers can find a combo guard in the early 2nd round to replace Josh Hart in the lineup in case he is traded.

Atlanta has the 34th pick and Sacramento has 37. Both teams should be able to absorb Deng's contract in a trade.

Philadelphia has 38, 39, 56, and 60. Maybe they would give us 38 and 39 to move up to 25.

Orlando holds 35 and 41 and might want to move up to 25.

Prospects I would want to be drafted by the Lakers are Donte DiVincenzo, Aaron Holiday, De'Anthony Melton, Josh Okogie, Mitchell Robinson, Khyri Thomas, Grayson Allen, Bruce Brown Jr, Melvin Frazier, Rawle Alkins, Anfernee Simons, Shake Milton, Moritz Wagner, Chimezie Metu, Landry Shamet

If we end up keeping our picks, De'Anthony Melton at 25 and Chimezie Metu at 47.

I am trade happy today.

25. Trade out of the 1st round
47. Trade up

By the way, Jesse Buss has a nice idea about "upside" and development.

Quote:

MT: In addition to Kuzma and Hart in the 2017 Draft, you’ve also grabbed Larry Nance, Jr. late in the first round (No. 27 in 2015), as well as Ivica Zubac (No. 30, 2016) and Jordan Clarkson (No. 46, 2014). Is there something you’ve utilized more than other teams to have success in that range?
Buss: A lot of times, I believe fans of basketball get infatuated with younger players, typically freshman that are 18 or 19. ‘Upside’ is the big word. How much better can this guy get? And it’s a fair argument, because a lot of times, you’re not looking at a guy who’s really perfected his craft or has really developed. In terms of juniors like Kuzma and seniors like Josh, they’re a little more polished and you know what you’re getting usually, but at the same time, there has been a lot of growth over the year with teams who have drafted juniors and seniors that have gotten better. I think Golden State proved that*. These guys weren’t just finished (developing) once they were drafted and that’s as good as they were going to get. Clearly, a lot of those guys got a lot better. You’ve seen it with a lot of teams who have drafted guys that are upperclassmen and had success with them. And for Josh and Kyle to come in right away and show what they did, it’s a sign of encouragement. People might say they were supposed to do that because they’re older than freshman, but playing in the NBA is completely different from college, and really any sign of success you show shouldn’t be just taken with a grain of salt. Those guys really did a great job for us this season.

Huerter if he's there, otherwise trade down with Atlanta to get Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent Jr. Get a project/trade chip and a guy who can give you back of the rotation minutes. 47 I'm also hoping for Svi Kja;dlfkjas;dfoaijsdfoiajsfd

No one and dones, were gonna draft nba ready players that don’t need to rework their jumpshot. Professional young snipers at both picks.

Traded.

Or some dude we never heard about but once kicked Kobe's dog on accident when he was 13 and Lakers fans will now rake him over the coals. He'll have to be blessed by Kobe in the media, LG's tune will change when he balls out, and I'll reply to old forum posts on how popular LG members wanted this guy's head on a stake.
